Wouldn't Subi oval turn into real estate just like Richmond Raceway did and East Freo oval is looking likely to do? All about money!!

I guess it could be a bit like the Sturt arrangement at Unley. The simple grandstand and club facility remains. The oval is a public park during the week and on game day is fenced off with temporary hard barricading and security guards all the way around. I went to a game there last year and it worked pretty well. Just their was one section that the paying public couldn't get to which looked a bit ordinary but great atmosphere in the rest of the ground.

Why the hell would subi merge with anyone? They got more dough than tip top, probably the richest club in the country outside the afl.
Ahern is a wafl lover, he is just trying to think outside the square and save this comp. bit radical for my liking but don't knock him for trying.

TOO the problem with his proposal is that of the areas he has identified in the WAFL the only one which he addresses is the financial one with his assumption that the AFL will support it financially. If that happened we would lose any autonomy over the WAFL competition and would be COMPLETELY subservient to the AFL. Further his proposal exacerbates the problems he identified of an aging supporter and volunteer base. His proposal alienates the current WAFL supporter base and it is doubtful that such things as a Swans - Perth merger (which has been suggested would be a consequence of his proposal) would provide the supporter base to compensate for the loss of supporters that his proposal would create.

I am at a loss to understand how a person committed to the WAFL could put forward a proposal which result in the complete demise of the WAFl, its clubs and its history.

Yeah I agree with all that and I don't agree with his proposal I am just sticking up for him as a wafl supporter.
Who knows what the future holds, the problem is this country has no interest in second tier sports anymore due to media saturation and obsession with the first tier, look at shield cricket it's as dead as a dog turd.

Problem is most people in WA let alone Australia no longer give a sh!t about the WAFL competition, or its heritage. Society has changed in the last 25 years...

The AFL have their own problems. All good things come to an end. Victorian's are no different to anyone else, and from my observations people are deserting Footy in droves.

Could it be MikeXU1 that if you want to watch Rugby then you would want to watch Rugby players play it, rather than watch Aussie Rules players playing it? As a spectacle how good is it watching 20 players over the ball with a multi-coloured clothed umpire yelling out 'knock it out' in direct opposition to reality and the laws of Physics?
