Unfortunately irreparable damage has been done to the WAFL. Just when it was getting back on its feet, crowds up and even media coverage over east, including WAFL games on free to air TV via ABC2, the WAFC dump a steamer on the comp.

Let me make this clear. I would prefer a strong Swan Districts presence at any level.

As for the Swan Valley Demons, I hated the idea back in the mid 90's when it was touted too, but the way it is going, will Swan Districts see another 75 years in the diminishing WAFL? Will any team? Swans have dodged a number of bullets in the last 15 or so years.

Will the WAFL see another generation (20 years)?

Yes I agree Fitzroy are gone, but had the merger been bewteen two Vic teams rather than the Brisbane Bears, it could have been a different story.

I also know that the majority of Perth and SD supporters would find it hard to swallow, including me if there were to be a merger.

Would it be what they loose in us, is what they gain in the future? Will there still be a place for the 1961 flag on the wall of a club, or will it sell on Ebay for a small sum, only to be pinned up in the back of someones suburban shed?

MikeXU1 I was not casting doubts about your support for Swans. What I was saying is that if we go down the proposed route Swans would not exist. Our history would be consigned to the rubbish bin like the rest of the WAFl's history. I couldn't and wouldn't support such a proposal.

There is no upside to Ahern's proposal from a WAFL perspective. Nothing in his proposal does anything to help save the WAFL. In fact it does quite the opposite.

Exactly Swan42, but unfortunately I don't have the answer to how it needs to be fixed. What I do know is it can't continue in this downwards direction, to eventually become non existent. Its a very real scenario. This goes for every club.

If a new comp was proposed by the AFL (not a TV station), and funding was put on the table, do we:-

a) ignore, become even more irrelevant;
b) move forward, and secure what history and relevance you can.

The WAFL clubs will have to save themselves eventually if the carrot is dangled, because the WAFC won't in my belief, and the WAFL comp will continually spiral out of existence.

Better some of that history continues on at a national bastardised level than not at all.

One needs to be realistic, the comp and clubs aren't going places currently. If the AFL decide on a second national competition, the rug may be pulled from under the feet of the WAFC.

East Perth and Peel could remain in a WAFL comp, playing the national comp reserves sides ie Swan Valley Demons reserves. EP and Peel wouldn't have reserves sides, and could possibly top up with players willing from the Ammo's.

Rather a national second comp than no comp at all but Subiaco Tigers?? Fuck that we don't need to merge with anyone...

No matter what happens with the comp, our board at some stage will try to merge with Claremont in the next 3 years and we have to be prepared to fight it mate. And fight it hard.

ben...there's some suggestion on other threads that Randall threw Subi's hat in the ring to align with the Beags and missed out...I'm not sure if that's right or not but maybe we might be in the frame to merge with the ferals given we share a ground already. if it did happen, that would be it for me...I'd be out of here.

Pretty sure Subiaco will be heading back to their home ground in the not too distant future as well!
