Thankfully PN you also are on the ball in regards to the small size of the WACA and dont forget with the goal posts and boundary line having to be at least about 7m from the perimeter fence it becomes even shorter again roughly about 130m in length! :S
Complete and utter farce of an idea unless the WACA wants to pay to increase the size of the ground and they always cry poorer than the WAFC bean counters!

Pete it's pretty much the same dimensions as The Claremont Showgrounds mate - almost identical

Edit: and come to think of it now - the MCG ;)

Waca...149 x 139...Thats too small for footy.
MCG....171 X 146

Nothing stopping them making it bigger again surely!

Load of crap, as I have already stated it's well within the dimensions of the official rules.

Time For a Flag wrote: Another stupid idea. The place will look like a morgue with 2000 people in attendance.

Plus you clowns that think Perth are going there do try and remember that Lathlain is soon to have multi million dollars spent on it.

To rotate the venue with match of the day is BS too. Swans supporters want to play their home games at Basso. Claremont supporters want to play there home games at Claremont. South supporters want to play their home games at Freo etc etc.

Councils put a lot of money into their relative sporting facilities and the want to see local members of that same community use these facilities not see them piss off to the WACA twice a year.

Piss off whoever thought of this. It would be another eagle 5th columner.

The Eagles would be well into talks with channel 7 or 9 or 10 to telecast games and it is easier to telecast games form one ground apparently. BUT NOT BETTER FOR THE WAFL ATMOSPHERE.

Get with the programme, the Latho redevelopment is for the eagles, whether you like it or not perth will be very much the junior partners, long term unless they agree to become the host club they will be out on their arses quick smart, there's no way the WAFC and eagles are building this for a piss ant. WAFL clubs benefit, and they won't leave half their squad stranded at Leederville,

Playing a WAFL gf at the WACA can't be anymore stupid than playing it at Subi or the new stadium, talk about a sit house atmosphere.

Geez BH they are a bit slow on this site, even after explaining the rules regarding the distance between fence and goal posts Bazza still doesn't get it.

The only way it would happen is if they got the bull dozers in and took away the grassed areas at each end don't know what sort of Money they would be looking at to achieve that.

When it comes down to it , there doesn't have to be WAFL league matches played there ... IF and I mean IF , you believe the WAFC , it is a HQ , Umpie training centre & U18 excellence centre

Besides that lengthening the ground isn't going to cost millions - that's for sure

Dead right PN you feel like bashing your head against a brick wall after reading some of the mind numbing comments on here at times ..FFS how hard is it too understand that the playing field at the WACA for football is now smaller than most junior grounds in town and is now far too small for Senior WAFL footy!

BH is spot on! If footy is to return there then they will have to do some remedial work to lengthen the ground which from my understanding wont be an issue at all
Beneath the Southern cross i stand, on Bassendean Oval, can in hand, Swan Districts, you Farkin Beauty!

Well for a start I said roughly 130m you flog :S and secondly when you bring the boundaries in EITHER END from the perimeter fence which is I will repeat once again roughly 7-10m at all grounds PER END then that can be anywhere between 14m-20m off the 149m length end to end!
Do you actually think they are going to stick the goal posts and the boundary line up against the perimeter fence do you Chris/S&S/Bazza/Bobby Skilton??? Actually knowing your mentality you probably would believe that!

between one & three hundred K to modify both ends (sides) of the ground - enabling flexible fencing & extra surface .... drainage system at the edges would have to be extended and modified to suit
During the summer season the fencing could be brought inward if required without affecting ground capacities all that much
Winner ... as it keeps the bastards out from down here
