As a Perth supporter I am always suprised to see the estimate that the news papers give our attendance at Lathlain.

Today for example the West had us down for a thousand while the other two completed games had estimates of 2000.

I go to every Perth game and always notice that our away attendance also seems low.

Now I have also ventured into Leederville to watch EP on a Perth bye. To me the crowd seemed very small but was called 2500.

Have the reporters been told to keep Perth numbers low so as to indicate they have no supporters and therefore could easily be gotten rid of.

Bronte has called for it.
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

Have often thought of this myself. In this modern day and age, why is it more accurate attendance figures are not available? Surely more accurate figures could be supplied than all this approximate silliness. I notice for round 1 played today, 2 of the matches have an approx. figure stated.

Not sure about all of that but i can tell you one thing, a lot of the crowd leave about midway through the 3rd qtr after the little league has finished.

Yep, all understood there DG. It simply confuses people when other sports can give more accurate attendances but seems the footy cannot in many instances.

It's a disgrace. Most of the journalists just guess between themselves and either put down what they think the crowd is or what they all agree on.

Some of the stadiums from where the journalists sit you can't see all the crowd. For instance at Lathlain you can't see the people sitting in the pig pen, presidents lounge or along the wall in front of the president's/players lounge.

It's not a conspiracy I just think it comes down to people just guessing and getting their stories in on time instead of making a phone call or going to find out. In saying that though there's always someone at the club who could go up at 3qrt time and tell them or the ground announcer could make an announcement.

Shit the WAFL's struggling if we're relying on the little league for crowds now ???

But agree it helps and you are partly correct DG

Nothing new about that, they have used Little League mums and dads to boast the figures and also Jnr Counsil days for ages, the minute the little league game is over they all leave, despite been given free entry to the game, zero interest or knowledge about the WAFL games, just want to get home and have lunch and watch AFL on the TV.

Lathlain figures will be under-represented because some peanut left the gate behind the northern goals open after letting in the bouncy castle and people just poured in there for free.

The carpark was full as was street parking which tells me the real number at Lathlain was significantly higher than the 1000 guesstimate.
