Thanks Cesspit. Yeah I think They will be tough to beat also. There's no denying that but I wanna be there on that day if and when my club manages to do it that's for sure.

I don't know why it is but people in this country only watch the top level of sport or what is currently fashionable but never the next tier down, no matter how good it is.

The WAFL, The Sheffield Shield, etc suffer because of this but both are quality comps.

People seem to be more intent on waving to the camera at an Eagles game when there is a boundary throw in rather than watching the play.

I guess we're not the sport mad country we once were.

I mean they sometimes get 100,000 people at a college football game in America which is a tier down from their NFL. And when I lived in Argentina, I noticed that they get good crowds at their WAFL level rugby comps.

I'm not sure that making any massive structural changes to the WAFL will make any difference because we will always be the second tier in the eyes of WA people no matter what.

The only thing that can make a difference are promotions the size of West Perth's British/migrant/newcomer match that they've staged the last two years.

But I still reckon, despite everything, it is a good quality comp.

you are so right lahincha. in Australia we think we are being innovative in elite sports, however we are miles off. Ive lived in the states and they put everything into their lower level sports. Its remarkable.

over here (AFL) they say they do plenty, yet once powerful comps like the SANFL, WAFL and the now defunct VFA are mere shells.

I respect soccer & the A-League for there new approach of a national state league comp. at least they are looking at things the way they do overseas. And in turn the development and added profile of the leagues that provide the product. the AFL are too focussed on endless rule modifications and things like names of guernseys. they are almost laughable at their neglect.

also lets be honest, the aussie sporting public don't know much.

I am sure eagles & freo people think the players come from a magical AFL mulch. Even AFL supporters in other states too.

Jardine, how does that college football work in the states? 100,000 people at a college game. How do they do it?

Yeah, I don't think sports fans in this country are very knowledgeable at all. Not compared to other countries I've lived in or visited.

LH, I am also with you on this.
The WAFL is a great competition despite the AFL alliances and the odd number of clubs both of which I would prefer not to have intruding on us. I expect, though, that time may well sought things out and the WAFL will once again grow.
What all clubs need is to have their members and supporters stand by them and ensure that they all survive.
There is very little that would make me withdraw my support from my club which I have supported for 60 years. I enjoy my WAFL club despite a long drought and I enjoy my AFL team also.

LH, considering the population of the US v Aust....is 100 000 people to a game any good?.....college football is big business in the states because some times the college team is the main team in a smaller US city....which probably has a bigger population of Perth any way!

100,000 people is good going to any sporting event let alone a second tier comp. But I grant you it was cities mainly without a local NFL franchise. I think it was The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa that averaged 101,722 fans per game in 2012. Amazing whichever way you look at it.

Aussie are as well learned about sports world wide as any other nation.
I think you sell yourselves and the nation down by short changing our knowledge.

Yeah mate, ask an Eagles fan about football and see their knowledge. I know people, some I've known for 30 years, who were never into football and really still aren't but they go to the AFL because it's the fashionable thing to do.
