To be honest, I don't know if the AFL's "new" teams will be all that successful.

The WAFL comp has started to build up momentum with skill levels up over the last several years after it was raped and pillaged back in the late 80's and 90's.

AFL reserve sides from what I have seen are not all that strong. I have seen Sydney's reserves in action over the last couple of years, and they can still be beaten in a Grand Final by more or less an amateur suburban team.

East Perth's flags might not come that easily...

I think this is a total disgrace, they have stuffed up the WAFL.

The dockers and eagles should be ashamed of themselves, the comp will be a boring one sided comp with the two sides dominating.

Reported on 6PR today at 9.45am that the 7 WAFL Clubs are in a meeting now , Paul Murry said they are talking about a boycott or a breakaway competition. About 11.00am we should get more news

Interesting to see what happens on the coaching front, how long have the current coaches got to run on their contracts considering the two AFL clubs are to supply the coaches as part of the agreement?

I honestly can't see them breaking away... They really do rely on the money generated by the two AFL clubs.

The only way would be a national league in direct competition with the AFL. A hand full of WA clubs is not going to make this happen... Swans who?? Falcons who?? Not going to happen.

The WAFL and SANFL had their chance to expand years ago (Westar) Horse has bolted, sorry.

East Perth Eagles, Peel Dockers - deals done.

Mike.

How strong do we think these two host teams are going to be. They will have the use of some high quality almost AFL players plus some older guys on the way out a truckload of young bodies that are going through the early stages of their careers after a rigorous pre-season and strength building programs plus I assume the better players from Peel and East Perth. Will the policy of playing the AFL listed players ahead of all others cause existing players who may feel that they will not play every week to look elsewhere. Plus is the extra money going to the non-host clubs sufficient to increase the salary cap to cover player payments of the whole 22, because with AFL players being "free" to the clubs, teams like Old Easts will have to pay 8 extra players per game. Its a very interesting time ahead

Don't think 2013 will see much difference in the fortunes of both clubs. EP were strong in 2012 and will be looking to back that up with another good season if they can retain key players. Peel may improve with a new coach and assumedly a rising level of professionalism at the club.

EP and Peel will show their strength in 2014 as EF and Claremont are weakened by mass player losses. Assuming EF and Claremont keep producing from their zones though it will balance out within a year or two.

Personally I think EP and Peel won't be as dominating as most think in the long run. The ups and downs of eagles and dockers players available for duty will make juggling their lists tricky and retaining key players to fill the gaps won't be easy.

it will be a balancing act to manage there lists, so players will want to move on and some will see it as a chance to show they are worth drafting. Will be interesting in the long run to see how players get drafted from EP and Peel by WCE and Freo.
