Western Australia's State 16s squad has been announced for the 2013 NAB AFL National 16s Championships at Blacktown, NSW from July 6-13.

The State 16s are aiming for back-to-back titles in Division 1 lead by experienced development coach John Hancock, who was State 18s Assistant Coach last year and an Assistant Coach for the State 16s in 2010 and 2011.

The State Academy players have undertaken skills training, leadership, nutrition and education sessions to enhance their overall development in the lead up to the Championships. The final squad has been selected based on form, fitness and commitment to the program.

WAFC State Academy Manager Raff Guadagnino said he expected this year’s 16s to be on of WA’s strongest ever groups. “The state selectors and I believe the WAFL development programs have taken player development to a new level, which has produce such promising talent.” Guadagnino said.

A WA North West side, which includes players from the Kimberley, Pilbara, and Gascoyne regions, will also compete in Pool C (Division 3) of the Championships, where they will also be aiming to defend their 2012 title. The WA North West squad will be finalised following a training camp in Perth this weekend.

Just spoke to my old Mate Grassy a staunch Perth Supporter and he said the Perth U16 are pretty thin on the ground and most probably didnt have any guys up to representative level. I thought there might of been one but he said not really.
I suppose if the other teams had a few talented players deserving of a spot it would be a Shame to leave them out?

Yes it is good to see WP represented. A lot of work is done to identify talent in allotted zones by all WAFL clubs & it obviously gives the scouts & coaches great satisfaction to see this talent reach a pinnacle in their age group. It also gives supporters hope for the future. Grassy must have been disappointed the Perth boys currently have no standouts at age level this stage. Next time you chat to him you must encourage him to get onto this site.( i am presuming he is not currently on under a different name....no one seems to be messaging in capitals!!!!).His passion for the Perth FC & the WAFL in general are missed.

Its a long story with Grassy. His computer skills are not great and from memory he used to use a mates computer anyway. He wants to come on but had problems because he said he didnt have a email address. Explained he could just start up a Hotmail.. He has a friend now who is sorting him out anyway and might see him soon. He was a at least a regular poster (when his mate let him use the computer). Grassy is one of the old school and not really a computer person as such. Hence the upper case etc I suppose. Oh well first things first and we will get him on board one day.

The sooner Grassy comes onboard the better Cardy! Hopefully his mate can sort it out for him.

Myself & Swandog spoke to Grassy at half time at the Derby a few weeks back & he told us he has been following ozfooty from afar & could be on here in the near future ..stay tuned!!
