You also have to remember that the WA players are spread over four sides. Boomerangs, WA North-West, World XVIII and WA. There's nearly 70 players from WA in this championship.

Plenty of talent in WA right now but it's South Australia's turn. For them to beat Vic Metro by 20 goals is unheard of at junior level. Clearly the Croweaters have an amazing squad this time. Good luck to them.

Ben I realise we have a few teams there but only 1 Metro team.
Now looking at 2012 results I cannot understand how SA have become so dominent in 12 months..

2012 WA PLAYED 3 WON 3 Champions all the rest played 3 won 1.
Huge improvement in the SA squad this year and the winning scores against other sides are huge.. So what did they do to bring this about this is my point.

Lets not just come out with comments like Hey its their year.. ok accept that but with such scores?

Western Australia 3 3 0 0 240 177 135.6 12
Vic Country 3 1 2 0 228 190 120 4
Vic Metro 3 1 2 0 189 232 81.5 4
South Australia 3 1 2 0 202 260 77.7 4

Each year a new set of 16's players. Some years are better than others. SA's side must be amazingly good because I know that our side has a lot of talent. I've seen most of them play.

One of the most amazing results happened in the WA North-West v Australian Boomerangs side.

A team of mainly Indigenous footballers from the Claremont and Swan Districts Pilbara and Kimberley zone easily defeating a combined Indigenous side from all over Australia. Great news for Claremont and Swan Districts.

Flying Boomerangs 4.8 (32)

GOALS
WA North West: Birch 6, Howard 5, Petera 4, Ard 3, Shaw 2, Gore, Yorkshire, McAdam
Flying Boomerangs: Wilkes 2, Nickels, Thomas

BEST
WA North West: Hackett, Seton, Birch, Simons, Ard, Petera, Howard
Flying Boomerangs: Gresham, Nelson, Hampton, Wilkes, Powell-Pepper, Davis

Mate whether that continues will be doubtful From the press release in WAFC TRASH thread

The commission will also cut a $14,000 zone allowance that was used primarily by Claremont (Kimberley) and Swan Districts (Pilbara) to service their regions.

They might not even put in a team in future u16 comps?

ps Thanks for your input La Hincha a topic that does not interest most but certainly the Grass Roots of our future footy players in this state.
Good input.. We will see how we go but the AFL will always be interested for obvious reasons. The Internet was very unhelpful this year as no real home page as was the U18 Carnival updates.

This will proably raise the ire of the Swans and Tiggers supporters but ....

Given the number of boys from the NW who can obviously play and need to be developed should we be looking to farm some of the boys out to other clubs for their development. There ar only so many places for boys to play 16's, 18's and colts.

It maybe that obviously swans and claremont get the pick but other boys get a a chance somewhere else as part of a loan process (similar to European football). It might help clubs who have a limited number of available colts.

Increases the opportunities and the depth of talent to drawn on.

Another idea maybe to run a 4 game inclusion of the team into the colts programme, no bye for the teams.

Seems to be a trend here Grump. First we do all the development work at Ellenbrook and it gets taken away from us; now you want to do the same with the Pilbara.

I was reading an article recently about the improvement in attendance from below the state average attendance to above the state average attendance in a Port Hedland High School. An indication that in conjunction with the school and community, sports based programmes have a positive impact on school attendances.

Nah, Swans and Claremont do a good job with the areas. It has to be remembered that many of the other WAFL clubs weren't that interested in overseeing those regions when they first come up for zoning.

Truth is, as talented as those lads obviously are in the carnival, not all will want to pursue a footy career in the city. The challenge will not be finding a WAFL club for these kids but indeed getting enough of these kids to relocate to Perth to make it worthwhile for CL and SD.

This week's colts initiative whereby Swan Districts and Claremont will play a virtual Pilbara v Kimberley game, at I imagine great cost, shows that both those clubs are committed to the areas. Maybe a few more of the boys will get the colts bug and decide to relocate to Perth in future.

Maybe in 20 years mate.
