A removable GameDay scoreboard is a very good idea STT.

Get a big black bit of tin and a strong steel frame braced at the back. Dig two big holes and put some concrete in them. Put the extended legs on the frame in the holes. Build a wall if you must. Get some painted numbers and some hooks.

Let other clubs spend 200k on a scoreboard if they want. What s waste of money.

Just put the score in big neon signs on the fence, God it’s not life and death. Don’t NEED big flash scoreboard.
And I take it you will volunteer to be the scoreboard attendant std? You happily reside under a sheet of tin under the Causeway do you? Or do you live in something a bit more impressive than that?

Yeah you’ve lost me. I mean I know you like a scrap but what are we disagreeing about here, just so I know...
I was using an analogy, why should we have sub standard facilities on our premises?

All this engineering means nothing if the operators are no good.
I saw a scoreboard operator at Perth Oval when EP were there in the early 80s drop a metal number and hit a patron in the head. Claret everywhere.
Given there were people crammed into the grounds then and under the scoreboard was a decent spot  Im surprised it didnt happen more often..

Exactly mr o. The electronics are mainly used for cost effectiveness. The operator doesn't need to actually attend the scoreboard. Could be operated by someone in the grandstand for all we know?   And welcome to the forum.

I do recall that one entire family kids and all operated ours at Fremantle Oval as club volunteers for many years during the 1980's - those kids ended up doing some work eventually
Certainly they would have received some form of remuneration and there were no mobile phones back then - just small transistor radios and the kids sent out at quarter breaks to check with the umps if there was a doubt over scores , and then they'd race back over to jump the fence again

Yes I think it was that name mate pretty sure you've got it - very very familiar sight for everyone every week , the old man was a funny bugger who hated East Fremantle big time and used to love the big derbies

One of the 60s revamped City of Perth grounds either Perth, Leederville or Lathlain had a more modernised version with "roller" numbers at one stage in the 80s that had been built in the 60s into a brick housing set up.  Not sure which one it was.

By the 90s I think the fabric and mechanical works had deteriotrated to the point of rusting up and it was replaced with panel numbers.

Subi also had one.
