The opposite is required if they are going to trim AFL lists. And isn't the SANFL salary cap at least double ours?

DD I have a gut feeling that the AFL.Tell the commission when to fixture there games.Like not having 2 Wafl finals this weekend ,with the AFL buy.

You do realise Port Adelaide did not even field a side in the sanfl this year, it’s 150 th. If that is not being bent over by the afl I don’t know what would qualify.

Sanfl is as weak as wafc .

Well they did decide to start their competition in Late June rather than Mid July like the WAFC did. That was an extra 3 weeks of footy for the Croweaters. Also they are not playing their Grand Final till 18th October, so an extra 2 weeks at this end of the season as well. So 5 weeks extra play is a big difference I would have thought and a reflection on how pathetic the WAFC has been with planning for this season.

No AFL players where allowed to play tier 2 this year.AFL hold the licence for both Port+the Crows. So that decision was out of the SANFL hands.
In the late 1980's the SANFL had a state government run lottery.Called the Player retention Scheme.Like a superannuation fund for players that played there career in SA.They did not want to join the AFL.They where forced by Port trying to join the AFL before the Crows did.

PA should have been expelled
they have lost control of their clubs
they needed financial support from the VFL
they have lost PA --see Ebert's comments
they have lost WT and Woodville
they have a higher salary cap than us
and yet, struggle to beat us in state football
they are that supportive of their own league, you don't even have to play in it to get drafted

Just some of the achievements of the SANFL in recent decades

The decision to start the season later and have less games was not a WAFC decision. It was 100% a WAFL club decision. Some clubs didn't want a season at all.

Senior Seagull wrote: Listened to Sports FM in the lead up to yesterdays Prelim, they mentioned that the AFL decreed that all state leagues must cut their salary caps by 30%!! Sounds like a done deal, but as you would expect the independent thinking SANFL are yet to agree. WTF are the AFL doing sticking their unwanted noses into WAFL clubs affairs, has the Commission once again bent over and taken it up the shute from the AFL? WA salary cap will now be around $200k, not great when so many players will be delisted from AFL lists and looking for a new home. Cashed up clubs like EP & Perth will be affected, Subi, as far as I know cant recruit so wont affect us, although DG mentioned it was just for 2020.

I'll be onto my club asking what's happening and what they intend to do, if anything. The probable influx of delisted players would be a great thing for the comp, raising the standards which cant be a bad thing. They also mentioned a renewed push to dump the ressies. FMD why????? leave OUR comp alone. The best way to ensure the WAFL's future is for the WCE & Freo to provide additional funding, Despite the expected $14mill loss by WC they will still have north of $35 mill cash at hand. It seems certain most/all clubs will be caretakers for the AFL leftovers, maybe that's why they think they can slash the cap.

Not happy Jan!!

Since when has EP been cashed up? as far as I know they struggle cash wise.

Demons Forever wrote: TRSM in order to be "creative" with player payments you need to have the resources in the first place.
Subi have found a way because they have the resources not available to other Clubs.
It will take years for their resources to diminish.

They have future fund worth millions, they will be around for years cashed up. Even though their membership base has fallen in recent years.

There are ways around the salary cap, White Goods, Leased Cars, Paid off Credit Cards,Bar Tabs all sorts of methods.

Stand the Test wrote: Still waiting for an example of sanfl going it alone on anything significant in say last 30 years.

So the sanfl didn’t want to join the afl but were ‘forced’ to do so by one of its clubs??? Solid organisation doing its own thing!

And yes I realised the no port thing this year (their 150th) was ‘out of sanfl’s control’, that is kind of my point.

Purchased Football Park - WAFL never bought anything
Refused the VFL to join the expanded Comp in 1987 and pay the rip off fee - WAFL Joined and paid huge money and went bust 2 years later.
SANFL Crows join and at a much reduced licence fee years later.
SANFL Clubs allowed to have pokies ensuring financial streams
SANFL Crowds remain double that of WAFL on average.
SANFL do deal with SACA shared ownership of Adelaide Oval, sell Football Park for huge profit as land, Play SANFL GF At Adelaide Oval free of charge - WAFC do deal with Optus and now have to pay $100K plus to use it for WAFL GF , no GF at Optus this year.
SANFL sells Crows licence back to AFL for millions, decouples and establishes future fund. WAFL allows WCE to amass 50 Million in Bank - no control over Eagles funds and is currently the subject of parliamentary inquiry.

I could go on....
