Leedy and I had a little discussion abt players who seek greener pastures and prove useful and I thought it would be a good diversion, also ones that well perhaps needed a third or fourth club. Be Nice and no Leggett crap!

EP have had a few of the first lot - Turnbull (and yes I know it was a WCE decision but ....)
Stephen Hooper, Josh Smith, and now Rohan Kerr.

Of the others well there was Calyton Lewis who at the time became the highest priced reserves player in WAFL history.

Bryce Forman, Ian Newman, Stephen Lally and Scott Spalding were more then handy sorts for EF.....Paul Mountain and Paul Vasoli for SF...Hetherington and Broadbridge for SD as well...no doubt Bease will have a shed load more in his WAFL memory vault.

Did Chris Pobjoy not try out at Souths before moving to Moss Street. Does Liam Ryan qualify? Leigh Brenton moved to Swans from East Freo and played in the 83 premiership and in the famous state win at Football Park in 84. Did Mark Watson not play at Claremont before going to Lathlain and winning a Sandover?

Depends on your terming of the word 'rejects' I suppose Freeze?
For example Gerard Neesham wasnt wanted by EF after playing water polo in 1978 so I guess he would fall into that category and thus would be the best one I have seen at SD in my time, he also enticed Tony Solin along as well who he was playing with up in Darwin.
We have picked up some decent players from other clubs like Mick Johns (mid season), Leigh Brenton (mid season), Len Gandini (mid season) etc that were not getting a regular game for their clubs so I suppose they could also fall into that category.
In more recent times Craig DeCorsey was a pretty handy pick up from Claremont, Matt Rogers from Perth whilst Kyle Hams had left SF for Busselton and was then recruited to SD but I doubt whether you could call him a reject.

Less successful at Swans were Chris Allen (EP) & Wayne Simms (P) (who could barely get on the park), Paul Vasoli (only lasted about 6 games) & Brett Farmer (all of 2 games)!

Freezin, those Perth guys you mentioned were not rejects. They were traitors. There's a difference. For Perth, Tropiano and Seebeck came to us after not getting a game at their original clubs, and each won a Sandover. Otherwise, we have picked up many rejects over the years, too many to name. Most have been crap, some have been handy. Our current team reflects that: Giblett has been good, Payne and Coniglio have been handy, Dennis has been ordinary, Martin will never make it.

Watched Stephen Hooper in a practice match in 1986 at Claremont.. He was huge & nothing else. Later drafted to Geelong & he was huge & nothing else. Went back to Subi & he was huge & nothing else.. Clayton Lewis played in Sth Bunbury,s undefeated premiership side in 1985. Good but not a match winner.

Great topic Grump. I can’t recall but I suspect Mick “Stinger” Rea was not getting a league game or as a regular so sought greener pastures at Perth. We had a great run with WP players who I suspect were on the outer for one reason or another, John Washfold, Ross Prunster and Joe Proctor.

Tony Pappoto from East Perth I wouldn’t call Watson a reject from Claremont, pretty sure he played in their 1981 premiership, as Ted mentioned Tropiano and Seebeck definitely fall under the reject category and go bang and win a Sandover the ultimate individual success, sadly it didn’t translate into team success.

A player we got from EF in the early 2000’s was very good, one of my favourites at the time Matt Kennewell I think was his name. A real bull and could hold down CHB or CHF.

Mark Washfold DD.
John Gavranich, Chris Stasinowsky (via SF) & Ray Holden were a few other handy players you blokes got from WP.
