Had to play 50 games in the 80’s to be eligible. Bucky had gone east by then hadn’t he?

singh -- thanks for the reminder of the strict criteria -- PB played only 49 games for the PFC in the 1980s. Can we replace him by one of --- Mike Richardson, Leon Baker, or Claremont's very good Goulding?

Thanks guys - any team like this is always going to bring up discussion which is great.

@arkroylal Bosustow played 49 WAFL games plus 1 NFC Game, making a total of 50 ‘official’ games enabling him to just qualify. I found Perth and to a lesser extend West Perth quite difficult to put players in relevant lines.

Trying to pick just one player per team in a line meant some good players missed out and had to be either completely left out or up it with emergencies - and some lucky players made the list where other players from other clubs who missed out might have got that spot.

Remember its not meant to be the ‘best’ team as you can vote for your favourite player in each line rather than the best.

Glad you guys enjoyed participating.

I have decided to try my hand at the 1970’s next and have started puttiing together my nominations. Not attending the WAFL until 1980, makes this a little tricky, so I am basing most of the nominations on longevity, awards, premiership and state players and from what I’ve heard.

I might have to throw it out to guys to provide me some options to fill in the blanks.

Cheers

Ric

Ricco
That is one very formidable side mate
Not too many state sides would have come even close to that one let alone beat it
Powerful , Potent & talented to the extreme level

Ok the 1970 poll is out now.

Same rules as the 1980’s poll. Some more WAFL superstars in this lot.

I tried placing players in close to the correct positions based on researching budgets, finals and state game starting line-ups. Player longevity, games played, goals kicked for forwards, awards and state games took preference when choosing up who to include.

Have fun.

Looking forward to the feedback since I probably saw less than half these players ever play.

Green is a shoe-in for the CHB possy, BH. I certainly voted for him.

On the other hand, I avoided voting for any of the mob down the road - in an attempt to balance up the injustice from the 80's team. :P

Didn't think I needed to mate.....as JS said the champ is a shoe on....have been working hard though trying to get Dobson, Bentley, Becu, Hollins, Jez, Sewell, Budgie and Melrose into the final team.....gutted Durnthaler wasn't up for selection either....

With total lockdown here and with the odd day off from work, has seen me tuck into some of those you tube footy classics....enjoying the commentary of the likes of Marty, Steve etc back in the 70s as much as the action....

ArkRoyal wrote: jack: ironically enough, I would not have put Brian Taylor in the side. It comes down to whether Keene, Featherby and Buckenara should be in the side.

I would put Keene in ahead of Moss, simply because he could play up forward as well; Moss would struggle to get into Claremont's best ever team, Mycock and Mcintosh would play before him.

Featherby was a great player, possibly the best player the league has had in terms of possessions won. Rioli, would always pip him for his brilliance of play, his pace, his ability to bring lesser players into the play, and because, he could seemingly see things out the back of his head.

Was Buckenara eligible? If he is eligible he needs to be in the side ahead of someone, such as, Kevin Taylor or Benny Vagonia. Taylor did not do much for EF and his one good season, was actually, 1979, outside the decade parametres of the team.

If you wanted to put a WP player in the side I would get rid of Brian Taylor and put Craig Turley on one of the half-back flanks.

In any case, it is a great side, picked by some good football judges.

Thanks Ric.

Moss would struggle to get into Claremonts best ever side Ark?? He would be first ruck and captain. What are you talking about.
