Wesley-Curtin put on a dominant display against a hapless Kelmscott side in their A-League Elimination Final this afternoon. With the scoreboard fully reflective of the difference between the two sides a post-game racist incident looks set to overshadow a fantastic performance by the Tigers.

At the conclusion of the contest and as Kelmscott players exited the field, drunken taunts by the Wesley Reserves side directed at the Kelmscott players heightened tensions. With specific players being "called out" and told to "f**k off" for no apparent reason, the Kelmscott players began to approach the crowd to find out what all the fuss was about.

It was here things turned nasty. After a bit of back and forth, an Indigenous player from Kelmscott was told to "f**k off and get your spear". This statement nearly caused an “all-in brawl” between both sets of supporters. Clearly this over-stepped all boundaries and constitutes blatant racism at a very fundamental level.

This incident should be looked at by the WAAFL and sanctioned accordingly. The AFL has set a strong precedent on issues such as these and it would be extremely disappointing if this kind of behaviour is accepted. Furthermore, an internal review by the Wesley-Curtin Football Club should be in order.

Unfortunately, I have a feeling this incident will be merely swept under and denied by the individuals involved (who would have thought?). However, as a footballing community we cannot accept this kind of treatment at any level and at any time.

I look forward to hearing the outcome of this incident and expect better of the Wesley-Curtin Football Club going forward.

Regards,

A very disappointed first time poster.

"the Kelmscott players began to approach the crowd to find out what all the fuss was about"

That is 100% false. They knew the season was over and they wanted a brawl! Yes the w/c supporters were chirpy but nothing racist was said until Kelmscott players got physical with the crowd. Not saying that excuses it but when you push drunken tards to far it is sometimes their only defense. sad but true.

Racism is never acceptable at any sporting event let alone society. Although neither is players and supporters clashing. Kelmscott get alot of stick on here but obviously today showed that other clubs can be just as bad , pretty discraceful by w/c supporters if accusations are true

Did not see the incident at the end of the game, but not good for community footy if correct. I simply made the trek to watch the game and see what all the fuss was about with Kelmscott. Never really looked likely from after the first 15 mins or so Wesley simply too good in the middle giving plenty of good ball supply to their forwards. Kelmscott have some very talented players no question and you can see why they won enough games to make finals but arguing with each other on the ground and clearly not enough respect paid to the fitness levels required to win big games in A grade was the major problem for them. Hope they increase their depth before next year as I must say they reminded me a lot of Maddington in A grade from a few years back.

Absolutely no place for racism and the WAAFL and Wesley should deal with the individuals if the accusations are proven to be correct.

The send off the Kelmscott players got may have had to do with the 3 red cards that they received during the game.

What where the red cards for Redleg? The waafl should jump right on this as I agree there is no place for racism in football or modern society.

Was it a player or spectator that made the racist statement?

Striking and a high hip and shoulder.

What are the WAAFL going to do about Kelmscotts continued bad onfield behaviour? Most A Grade clubs wouldn't get 3 red in a season. This year two opposition players have received broken jaws from off the ball coward punches by Kelmscott players. Both incidents have been investigated by police with possible assault charges being laid.

Racism isn't acceptable but nor is Kelmscotts behaviour. I'm not surprised that the Wesley Curtin supporters were pretty vocal after the game having watched their team belt Kelmscott on the scoreboard but Kelmscott beat their players during the game.
