"the Kelmscott players began to approach the crowd to find out what all the fuss was about"

Along with the 3 red flags it sounds like the Kelmscott where just there for a punch up.

There is a difference between playing A Grade and being an A Grade club.

Kelmscott are well off the mark.

A lot of interesting comments on this thread.....

I find it quite sad that in 2015 a player can be racially vilified and some individuals still believe that in certain circumstances the behaviour is warranted. Furthermore, this incident seems to have “reinforced” a lot of negative connotations associated with the Kelmscott Football Club; I'm just not sure how that works? A player is racially abused and that is somehow used to imply the hatred of the team is justified? It's truly mind boggling.

It would be interesting to see the response if the roles were reversed and a drunken Kelmscott Reserves player had racially abused a Wesley-Curtin player. Would we be saying things like "Wesley are well off the mark" or "sounds like a fun weekend at the Wesley Football Club hey?” I think we all know the answer to that question.

There is NO place in sport for this kind of behaviour under ANY circumstance, irrespective of the team you play for. We need to call out racism wherever we see it and be united in our opposition to this backwards mentality.

I hope this issue can be resolved in a prompt manner and the WAAFL set a strong precedent on this issue.

Cheers

Kelmscott were fine when they were in front. Once they started getting flogged they turned really dirty and it was so obvious hence the crowd getting worked up. Still it was disgusting behaviour by 1 PERSON who is a drunken half assed supporter but it was absolutely unsportsmanship and criminal/thuggish what Kelmscott WHOLE TEAM were trying and doing to the WC blokes.

Then 2 issues from the game shouldn't be used to justify or bag out the other club. Yes the 3 red cards show Kelmscotts lack of discipline but for a drunken dick to get involved and then racially abuse a player is extremely disappointing. It was only a couple of rounds ago we were all wearing red arm bands to stamp this out in our game. It been all over the news with the Adam Goodes situation. How much more is it going to take for people to release that you can't do/say things like that anymore (not that it should have been done before anyway).

Our club had a situation a few years ago when a supporter from another club racially abused one of our players and it caused a fight in the crowd but it was the other clubs supports fighting against themselves. These situation can cause a big split in a club if not handled correctly. The instigator from our incident was removed from the club on the day and given a 12 month ban and then had to appear before the committee before being allowed back at that club.

These incident are usually left for clubs to deal with as the Waafl doesn't have the power to deal with a non member if that's what this person was, if he was a registered player/member of Wesley then they could take some action. Mediation is there favored path as they don't seem to want to make a real statement by banning someone for a long time, eventually they will make a stand and out someone for a long time, they should also impose big fines to the club involved.
