I think the correct number was 54 since August last year.. Lots of under 16 yo + at least one fire fighter who lit 7 fires.

Cut and paste from 9News.com

NSW Police have caught 24 alleged firebugs accused of deliberately lighting bushfires in a catastrophic season that has so far killed 18 people in the state.
Almost five million hectares have burned in NSW since September, destroying 1482 homes and killing hundreds of millions of animals and livestock.
Two dozen people have allegedly risked prison sentences of up to 25 years by choosing to light bushfires, despite the potential to kill and cause millions of dollars of damage.

I wouldn't be surprised if they doing this because they are climate activists and want to show everyone how bad the climate issue is. More fire than ever will fool most and they have no conscience so will just light up. Morons. My NYE was ruined by virtue signallers mocking ScoMo for a 6 day break followed by their Climate Change lecture, their politics followed then their religious thoughts came in. As a kicker they finished lamenting their white privilege and that of their kids white privilege. Unbelievable.
Victorians still laugh at West Aussies because of the way we bailed out the vfl and then allowed it to be called it the AFL!

58 I think they backburned for a few reasons. I've Actually asked an Aboriginal bloke before about this.
1.Hunting up wind.
2.Break up passages between thick bush areas. So they can move around easier.
3.Somewhere to shelter when there was massive bushfires.
4.They also burnt long grass in the winter +early spring.
Also cooked there food under ground with hot coals,They where very aware of bushfires.

Ya' couldn't make it up.

One the one hand, the "tree huggers" are preventing controlled burns (untrue), and on the other, they are deliberately lighting uncontrollable fires (no evidence whatsoever) which will destroy the very environment they are trying to protect.

But there is a common link - you just need to ignore the data and evidence (which has been posted here twice already), and go with the rhetoric and gossip.

Unbelievable indeed.

Sounds like the climate change debate all over again.

NSW police data shows 183 people have been charged or cautioned for bushfire-related offences since November 8, and 24 arrested for deliberately starting bushfires. Queensland police say 101 people have been picked up for setting fires in the bush, 32 adults and 69 juveniles.11 hours ago

Watched an interview with one of the fire fighters on the ground actually dealing first hand with the fires and he said the ground level fuel loads are massive and they cant deal with the intensity of the fires due to this fuel load. Straight from the horses mouth, not mumbo jumbo from agenda driven left wing academics and their sycophantic left wing news organisations.

I think it's fairly obvious SS that fuel loads are a major contributing factor as is climate change to some extent. Natural disasters such as this can never be put down to one factor only and to do so is a nonsense. Those who come out and say climate change is solely to blame are on another planet...or should be imo.

They also don't like going thru the long grass because of snakes.

There a lot of commentary abt the fires, fuel loads, controlled burns and not having had to deal with the issues directly I will leave it to those with greater direct knowledge or experience to deal with that rhetoric.

One thing that has changed in my 67 years in perth is the seasons, there was a time when there were 4 seasons albeit blurred a bit, i knew when there would be waves at Scarborough and when the banks would be in certain places. It seems to me that the blurring has increased and I reckon that we have a a hot bit, a humid bit, a bit of a change in march april and a cold bit through july into late august. The indigenous seasonal calendr reflects this better that I can explain.

My point is that the climate throughout the world is changing, ice caps etc the wheat belt data for us and other stuff would suggest that it is, why it is changing is anyone's guess and everyone has an opinion based on their facts an wants!

Can we effect the change, who knows (seems everyone has another opinion on that), can we prepare for a different climate albeit unknown to what extent and do we need to prepare for the difference, simply yes.

The politics and mud slinging are useless, folk really need to stop and look at what we can control and not try to deal with a the pipe dreams or blame.
We live in a time where intelligent people are being silenced so stupid people won't be offended
