Always was going to be on the cards this scoreline.....are there any ODI after this....reckon all the bowlers need to go home....fresh bunch......Shaun Marsh is back to his old ways......none of the batsmen in SA deserve to play Pakistan on the UAE in October....not sure how they can pick a side TBH....don't envy the new coaches first gig....who ever scores a 50 in the second innings is a monty for Pakistan I reckon.....gonna be an interesting transition....betchya Kohli can't wait till this summer....

Freeze it could be like this for a year or two, as some have pointed out recently there are no batters in Australia consistently crunching out runs......

With Smith, Warner & Bancroft all out for the next 3 Test Series, Khawaja absolutely hopeless against spin (we play Pakistan, Bangladesh & India) S.Marsh probably gone now we just have to stick with the likes of Renshaw, Burns, M.Marsh with the likes of Head, Cartwright, Patterson, Wildermuth, Dean all vying for spots in the Top 6, can probably see Maxwell given another go as his form on the subcontinent is pretty good.
One thing is for certain is you can put a line through Handscomb as a Test batsman that technique is just not up to it.
Paine looks likely to be the skipper meaning Carey will have to bide his time unfortunately as he looks a talent with gloves and bat but Paine does seem to have a good head on his shoulders and we really dont have any other alternatives at this stage as M.Marsh is still to secure his spot as the batting all rounder.
Bowling wise Cummins has really come on over the summer which has been good to see after years of frustrating injuries, obviously Starc & Hazlewood to lead the attack, Gary The Goat to provide off spin, Agar & Swepson as the other spinning options, Sayers has shown enough to be a handy back up option in the right conditions as Bird has done in the past (which makes it even more puzzling why Mennie was chosen ahead of both in Hobart last summer), it would be good to have a fit and firing James Pattinson around as well.

If Langer comes in can see Cartwright and Turner getting looked at....if Gillespie comes in Head, Weatherald and Ferguson I reckon....Ponting....reckon he might give Jake Doran a go....yeah pity about Carey.... hopefully Paine isn't skipper for all 3 formats.... horses for courses I reckon....Harris from Vic might get a go...not if JL gets the gig tho...LOL

They obviously want to come home tomorrow. The batting if you could call it that was just spineless. Appalling shot selection to some sucker balls by the South African bowlers. Shaun Marsh was the only one who was undone by a good delivery. We have very few batting options in the foreseeable future when you go past the top few. Du Plessis may decide to prolong the agony by batting again which is the only way I can see the game going into the 4th day.

my 11 for the next test, and if i was a selector, its time to pick and stick, there will be some pain, hut this group like the group they went fr in the 780's could lead a turn around in fortunes over time

Renshaw
Weatherald
Maxwell
Silk
Payne (c)
Head
Carey (wk)
Cummins
Starc
Lyon
Hazelwood

If Starc isn't fit then I would got for Tremain

Let me explain a few things before you shoot me down.

Renshaw didn't do a lot wrong to lose his spot, Weatherald at least scored a few runs in the shield and he looks like he an defend and he can score.
Maxwell deserves a go at 3, that may be Silk's best spot in a year or two but id bat him at 4.
Paine is in the best batters in Australia (as he is showing now) he won't last if he keeps getting hit on the thumb while keeping, so bat him at 5, and allow him to captain without the extra pressure of keeping.
I have gone for Head at 6 ahead of Marsh, Marsh isn't a reliable batter, and he doesn't bowl a lot. With the next series being against pakistan then we don't need 4 fast bowlers.
Batting Paine at 5 allows Carey to play as the keeper.
The bowlers pick themselves, however id be going for Tremain if Starc isn't fit as he took wickets regularly for Victoria this year playing on the flat MCG track.

Pick and stick with that squad for a while, there will be some pain but over time that group will play together and learn to win. If you don't want to go with Head then it would be cartwright, again a much better batting prospect compared to Marsh.

Cummins would be the VC....he plays the game the right way

Happy to hear your thoughts

Paine or George Bailey as Captain for me ph.

Who would your Coach be? Not as big a deal as far as I'm concerned.

No Maxwell or Silk for me PH....Doran at 3, happy to have Carey as wicketkeeper to save Paine's fingers he can bat 6....Turner at five, fark knows at 4...anyone of Head, Ferguson, Cartwright or M Marsh....Uzzie will play no doubt stick him at 4.....Starc needs to lift with the new ball in hand as does Hazlewood....time for Cummins to take the new ball...as BH says wish Pattinson was fit....

Renshaw
Weatherald /Harris
Doran
Uzzie
Turner
Paine
Carey
Cummins
Starc
Lyon
Hazlewood

Gonna be tough whichever 11 gets picked....shallow batting depth for a long long time

tbh...after the events of the last week I can't be bothered even watching it. I used to come home from work and put it on as soon as I walked in right up to day 4 of the last test... not any more.

Having a closer look at Sayers last night I am not sure he has the pace to be any threat at Test level bowling on average around the 120kmh mark.
Jai Richardson if fit will be the next cab off the rank in the pace bowling department behind Starc, Hazlewood, Cummins & Pattinson when fit.
