BC wrote: Yep...agree with everything there PH. The other thing those crying foul over the severity of the penalty should remember is that Smith and Bancroft actually lied to the world during their press conference. They said they used yellow tape and it was something the leadership group came up with....both straight out lies. It took the internal investigation to uncover what really happened as there was no way we'd be getting it from Smith and Bancroft.

Well at least they admitted to ball tampering - those caught before just denied it all together. CA's penalty is completely disparate to that of the ICC's because it is trying to emotionally satisfy sanctimonious elements of the population and it should be appealed.

Ti Em.....Warner got no penalty at all from the ICC.....yet he was the main player of this whole saga....are you saying that the ICC got it right?.....would love to know those "non sanctimonious" folks opinion on what they believe would of been a fair punishment then.....BH? what say you mate.....would love to hear your punishment then.....if any from the sounds of things......

Come end of the day considering Aust don't play another test match till October.....6 months of this suspension realistically means Bancroft misses 3 months of test cricket.....Smith and Warner 6 months each.....

6 months would probably have been a more reasonable option, the only thing as Freezin said is that there is not a lot of action for the Australian team in that period, whereas now Warner and Smith will be out for the whole of the next summer season and Bancroft will be back around the time of the Big Bash. Their main punishment will be reputational and their loss of personal sponsors and the income derived from that. I think it is almost inevitable that they will appeal the severity of the ban and I thought I read somewhere that Warner had already canvassed that option. I am still amazed at the vitriol and hate that this issue has created in Australia towards these players. It's almost as if some people see this as a personal attack on their own integrity as an Australian instead of keeping it in perspective and looking at it as an opportunity to develop a fresh culture in this team which to be honest has been an embarrassment for quite a while.

Both Bancroft and Warner are probably finished at international level.

I would agree with you about Warner but I think Bancroft is young enough to reestablish his credentials in the Shield. I would trust Brad Hogg who has known him since he was 13 and he said this action was totally out of character.

mikeh..these guys live a priveldged life, get paid way too much for doing so too....can see why folk are pissed....play hard but play fair.....anyway with Warner gone, I feel the cancer has been removed

...living outside of Aust, I can tell you the Aussie cricket team is the least respected and least liked team playing on the test circuit...used to be the Poms...now its Aust............I agree with you it's Aust chance to change it's culture...it has been a long time coming....Lehmann wants Aust to play more like the Black Caps.....I say yes.....but with more success.....LOL

I am not saying the ICC have got it right but the onus should be on them to deal with what is a widespread issue. CA have turned Smith, Warner and Bancroft into Pariahs but that does not stop players from other countries breaking the rules.

pretty obvious the ICC weren't handling the matter properly.....long list of offenders, repeat offenders.....and the likes of Warner, Bancroft and Smith had no qualms of initially thinking about it and then doing it......perhaps if other players had been suspended for 12 months etc.... they would of hopefully thought "no way, considering so and so got done for 12 months...I can't afford that if we get caught".....

mate who has broken the rules since this scandal?.....no one......will be interesting to see what other countries do if ball tampering occurs.....got a feeling though ball tampering will magically stop after Aust line in the sand moment....be interesting to see how much we see of reverse swing from now......Ti Em tell us what your punishment would of been then.....interested to know what it would be

Correct me if I am wrong but you live in New Zealand. Of course the Aussie cricket team isn't going to win a popularity contest down there.

If you can't beat them join them. Stick with the ICC penalty and let them deal with the problem. Up until now they have had their heads in the sand.
