I did watch parts of a few games and I agree that for a top level competition the standard is not good at the moment. However I think we need to take a longer term view here in that the current profile of the sport is attracting more girls to either take up the game or continue playing as they can see a path. As the pool of players gets bigger the quality will increase I am sure. I went to one of the games at Fremantle last year and there were lots of girls there in the 12 - 15 Year age group and these are the target market

Sad to see today the demise of the Burnie Dockers (from the TFL) a proud Tasmanian Football Club for many years who have enjoyed recent success and from a very proud football territory who have produced many good footballers over the years, they were an amalgamation of the Burnie Hawks & Cooee FC's.
On the same day the afl launched the ridiculous aflx rubbish which they have spent millions on no doubt on top of the aflw and the new franchises on the East Coast......

Great point Beas.
They can spend all that money on AFLW and AFLX and yet traditional footy clubs are just allowed to die off.
It's all about making themselves look important and progressive but they don't really care about Aussie Rules footy.

Over-rated garbage.
The code isnt genetically designed for them, so all this crap about it getting better is AFL house standard line bulls**t. Nobody in the media has the guts to say it as it is, Australian Rules is the most aerobatic, versatility based and physically demanding code on earth. It stretches the capabilities of even the most hardened male. Just meeting those 3 criterias is one thing, then being able to execute ball skills while performing those 3 criterias is another. Its a demand in this sport. If you cant do all of these, the end result is basically laughable. What we have are females stretching their own generic realities and the end result is piss poor skills, turnovers and straight up boring footy. There is a reason Netball was invented. When the media go nuts over a chest mark or a 35 metre goal with a smaller footy, you know your being conned.

Sorry, as much as I dont want to offend anyone, it is and always will be a below Z grade try hard crap.

Well I have my $2 Optus Perth Stadium tour tickets for Saturday, apparently there will be some sort of footy game played on the day?

that's what I am calling the whole league from now on -- wl -- I hope they don't start asking for equal pay otherwise the competition will be in trouble.

Sexist claptrap.

Get back to us in 10 years, when the women's game has had a 10th of the time it has taken for the men's game to develop and evolve.

Hopefully I will still be around then to prove you wrong, anchor.

I look forward to the inevitable improvement of the women's game - and will keep you all informed of my grand-daughter's progress. :P
