Bad news

Bouncers have always been dangerous ever since the Body Line series.

is there an argument to ban bouncers? you can't throw head high pitches in baseball without clearing the benches, the head is sacrosanct in most sports with the exception of boxing...why is it you can deliver a rock hard missile at 140kms plus and aim at someone's scone?

Agree 100% mate , Bert Oldfield got his skull farctured and knocked uncontious in 1932 during the bodyline series, no helmets back then either, nothing has changed really since then, those cricket balls are friggen dangerous, rock hard actually I reckon they are the hardest sports ball around.

We have heard about this high profile one, how many kids, amatuers and country blokes get belted on the noggen or in the face each summer we dont hear about?

Tragic tragic news, the kid was taken in the prime of his life

lets not be quick and blame the delivery guys, or come up with strange statements like change the rules. This is a tragic accident and can be classed as nothing else.......The poor kid passed away doing his job, and doing something he loved, lets focus on that, and not start a silly debate on are bouncers good for the game or not.....Lets face facts bowlers don't bowl bouncers to hurt batsmen, they bowl them to try to get wickets

I'm sure last year when we were bouncing the poms tail like mad and Clark was telling Anderson to get ready for a broken F&^%$NG arm, like me you would have all thought you beauty, in fact I think the common call from the public and the media was go get them Mitch, make them hurt and tear them apart.

Actually they changed the rules after the body line series, they made it illegal to bowl more than a limited number of bouncers in any one over.

RIP Phil Hughes just listened to his doctor only 100 cases of this type of injury and the first in cricket, just a freak injury talk of banning the bouncer is absolute rubbish.

Such sad news to hear that Phil Hughes has passed away. All those billions of balls bowled and just one freak occurrence, a ball hits someone in a particular spot and tragedy. and it is tragic that someone dies playing sport, just 25 years of age with his whole life ahead of him.

In relation to what bazza has commented about Bert Oldfield, the wicket keeper admitted it was his fault. He had mis-hit a hook, which flew from the top edge off a traditional non-bodyline ball. In fact it is thought that no serious injuries occurred from any short-pitched deliveries while a leg theory field was set.

With all due respect to what has happened, i totally agree with premiership hangover. I cannot see the bouncer being banned or would want to see it made illegal.
