Please tell me BC if Abbott and Morrison were so determined to prevent further deaths at sea why didn't the Liberals support the legislation which would have allowed the Labor Government the ability to send asylum seekers to Malaysia and please don't starting quoting that they weren't signatories to the UN charter on refugees? The only answer is that not for the first time they were playing base politically games with total disregard for any deaths that may occur as a consequence of those political games.

Also, perhaps you can give your views about Barnett's assertion that he is not forcing councils to merge and the attempt to renege on a deal with the Nurses' Union.

very simple 42...what sort of deal is it where you send 800 to Malaysia and receive 4000 in return? We were getting 800 arriving every week when Labor were running the show...so what would have happened when the 800 limit was reached in a week? another 800 for 4000? then another and another?

What do people think about the future of QANTAS?

For mine its time to set it free, let a foreign investor have a crack and see if they can make ot work.

quite frankly bazza, i go overseas on average twice a year and avoid Qantas like the plague. You just dont get value for money like you do with Emirates, Singapore and co. I don't like to see another icon go under but it is what it is. unfortunately its not a simple fix either given there's a number of causes for their current situation including high wages, strong aussie dollar, poor management decisions around types of aircraft acquired, strong competition from overseas airlines and so on.

Have to agree, Its been a Long time since I flew Qantas internationally, the last time was a nightmare I got stranded in Tokyo in terrible circumstances.

I avoid them like the plague as well, I think only 14% of Australians now fly Qantas OS, down from 60% 20 yrs ago. They are getting Killed by Emirates and the likes of Air Asia.

I have a mountain of FF Points with them but they are almost impossible to use if you want to get a decent flight at peak times and not back track god knows where!

This icon thing is a bit of a furphy in my books, Holden was a so called Icon , but was Foreign owned, so is Vegimite - the Swiss own that. Once upon a time were all loyal Swan Draught drinkers and thats gone as well! Now everyones walking around with foreign stuff from Mexico or Holland.

I'd rather have a decent competative airline, with new aircraft flying from Australia, then some dead duck weighed down by old nationalisation legislation.

Perhaps Bazza, BC et al can comment on the latest with respect to Tony Abbott. That is, Rick Santorum praising Tony Abbott as a hardliner. To put it in contect Rick Santorum is one of the people who does not believe in Universal Health coverage. I.e. Medicare would be scrapped if he had his way. The ICU probably would need to be on standby for Rick Santorum if anyone told him about Abbott's Paid Parental Scheme. Probably a similar result if he knew that Abbott supports a regime where a Catholic can never become head of state in Australia.

Of course, it is perhaps more an indication of his ignorance of Australian politics.

Haven't heard anything about Santorums comments, Americans have a differnt view o. Health care than most of the world, my Medicare levy costs me a mint every year so I hardly consider it free,

Cosgrove is a catholic and has just been appointed GG,

Cosgrove is not, never was and never will be Australia's head of state under the current Australian constitution. Further I don't even understand why you brough Cosgrove into the conversation when I was talking about Australia' Head of State.

hey 42...what do you think of Krudd and Garrett's hair brained (if you'll excuse the pun) pink batts scheme now? 2 public servants were given two days to work the thing up and we wonder why there were deaths as a result. those responsible including the relevant pollies ought to be indicted for manslaughter.

How much would Krudd's nose be put out of joint having to front up to an inquiry.

The horror of someone as important as him been subjected to this sort of treatment.
