As for the other fundamental election issue, people-smuggling, the Minister for Immigration, Scott Morrison, delivered another blow a few minutes after Hunt spoke: ''It has been more than 50 days since there has been a successful people-smuggling venture to arrive in Australia … In 2014, there have been no single ventures that have successfully arrived. That compares over the same period [last year] to 14 boats and 798 people. The message is certainly getting through.'' This is a disaster for Shorten. After six years of a multi-billion-dollar financial and policy black hole under Labor, the people-smuggling trade has been greatly suppressed within months by the new government."

Particularly cute. Please explain why the unemployment has now reached over 6%, the first time in about a decade, under the Abbott Government. Could it be if there is good news it is because of the Abbott govenment and if it is bad news it is the fault of the previous Labor Government?

Perhaps you can also explain why the Royal Commission into the 'pink batts' deaths has not had its brief extended to go through all the workplace deaths for let me see the LAST 25 YEARS. The two royal commissions announced by Abbott are PURE AND BASE POLITICAL WITCHHUNTS and are an absolute DISGRACE and show the true nature of Abbott and his government.

Whilst we are on politics - I wonder how people think B Bishop is doing as the speaker of the house. A pity she doesn't know all the people even on her side of politics - when was the last Federal election?

Fantastic policy success in this area for the govt, and really highlights the complete incompetence of labor. In dealing with this issue, , as we all know the libs had a proven track record in this area and once again have blown labor away,

Sadly they are now weighted down with the economic effects of 6 years of labor.greens terrible policies, unemployment is on the rise due to business and industry being crippled by the fair work act ,,a outrageously expensive carbon tax, low productivity and high wages as well as a. Heap of left wing red tape,

Still idiots like shorten even though they have destroyed the economy stand in the way of reform and refuse to,pass the carbon tax repeal, support union corruption and poor work place pratcoe ,

The Wyalla wipeout is happening after all , heavy industry has been killed by labor, well done you idiots,

hahahaha...42 you're becoming unhinged I'm sure of it...how can a government that has been in power for only a few months be responsible for unemployment going through the roof? surely even you can see its a result of global factors, 7 years of Labor and wages/costs spiralling out of control so that we're no longer competitive with other countries.

BC the answer is pretty simple. I was extrapolating on the basis that Morrison and Abbott are taking credit for the boat arrivals downturn. Credit where credit is due. I also see that we have the 2014 version of 'children overboard' - Scott Morrison should do the honourable thing and resign; failin that action he should be SACKED by Abbott.

Whilst I am here perhaps you can put your two penneth in about the actions adopted by the WA Government with respect to the Nurse's pay agreement. You can argue that during a caretaker period they should not have agreed unless they had formal written approval from the Labor Party; you certainly can't argue that you were under duress, i.e you didn't want it to be an election issue, and now that agreement should be null and void. Whichever is your preferred position, the minister responsible for the agreement should be SACKED.

I wasn't going to get involved in this one swan, but you're so very wrong again. We've finally got a govt. with balls and we the Aust people have had more than enough of the weak kneed lily livered Labor people slowly destroying our country. Abbot said there was no room for wimps here, and I agree. We need strong leadership and we are finally getting it. That's my rant over, so you can go back to your coterie group to continue your argument. And oh....have a nice day. :)

Had a quiet chuckle when I heard a Labor politician say that Morrison/ Abbott had blood on their hands as a result of the tragic death of one of the Manus Island refugees during the unfortunate event last week. As sad as that is it pales into insignificance compared to the 1000 plus who died trying to make it to Australia in Indonesian fishing boats during the past few years under Labor's pathetic endeavours to stop the boats. Absolutely Hypocritical!

a guy I know very well who is a serving Customs officer received a bravery award a few weeks ago for his selfless efforts in pulling people out of the sea at great risk to himself on Xmas Island when the refugee vessel smashed against the rocks and many drowned a few years ago. You should hear his views on Labor and what they created when they dismantled the Pacific solution...if anyone has blood on their hands its Rudd, Gillard et al.

Please tell me BC if Abbott and Morrison were so determined to prevent further deaths at sea why didn't the Liberals support the legislation which would have allowed the Labor Government the ability to send asylum seekers to Malaysia and please don't starting quoting that they weren't signatories to the UN charter on refugees? The only answer is that not for the first time they were playing base politically games with total disregard for any deaths that may occur as a consequence of those political games.

Also, perhaps you can give your views about Barnett's assertion that he is not forcing councils to merge and the attempt to renege on a deal with the Nurses' Union.
