To get back on subject Abbott PROMISED not to cut the ABC funding in a pre-election promise. If he does cut the funding it will be ANOTHER broken promise. As for the claim that he has stopped the boats - how would one know Morrison and Abbott are mute on the subject now - not a billboard in sight. OPEN and ACCOUNTABLE government - not even in the same galaxy.

Swan, can you send me a link to Abbotts pre election promise on the ABC funding? I cant remember it, he may have said it would be maintained but not increased in real terms, which taking into account inflation is a cut I guess, funding did jump a good deal under the Rudd Gillard Regime I understand.Personally I enjoy some ABC services, they need to just get back to their orginal basic charter, but the blatant left wing bias is disturbing.

On the boats,,how many have arrived in the last month swan, all reports suggest its Nil.

Seems the Australian artists are bringing JJJ into this. There is speculation and accusation they are not adhering to their charter.

How would anyone know Bazza since Morrison and Abbott are mute on the subject compared with their daily photo opportunity with a billboard. As a matter of interest it is the cyclone season up north.

What is view of Malcolm Turnbull's view of the ABC which seems to run counter to yours and Abbott's views.

According to one news report no boats have reached Australian territory......Christmas Island, Rowley Shoals, etc since December 19. It would appear that the recent strategy of turning back the boats has had a major impact. In previous years under Labor's watch between November and April (the cyclone season) the boats still kept coming!

What about the defence minister Swan , what does he reckon about the ABC,

They never cease to amaze me, you can watch all three commercial, TV evening news and there is no mention of boats, yet the ABC leads their evening bulletin with a life boat rocking up on a indo beach, I never recall them leading a bulletin with a arrival of one of hundreds of boats that aririved on our shores,

What is INDISPUTABLE is the fact that Morrison and ABBOTT were advertising the status of boats coming to Australia via huge billboards leading up to the last Federal election. Now Abbott and Morrison are positively mute on the subject. Perhaps you may have watched the Insiders programme yesterday. Tow of the guests were from the Australian and The West Australian - so much for left leaning bias!!!!!

Abbott and Morrison are treating the Australian public with complete contempt. Open you eyes Bazza to the reality.

Now we have another Royal Commission to be called for pure and base political purposes. No I don't support Union corruption nor do I support Company bosses indulging in corrupt practices. Hence the need for the matters to be referred to the police for investigation. But no Abbott calls a Royal Commission for political purposes. He called a Royal Commission to investigate the 'pink batts' not because he is interested in work place safety but for base political gain. If he was interested in work place safety he would have extended the scope of the Royal Commission to investigate ALL WORK PLACE DEATHS.

Abbott is nothing more nor less than a BASE HYPOCRITE.

So what if they advertised the amount of boats, that was because 17,000 people arrived in ONE year, and the ALP LOST control of the entire situation. They were 100% correct to highlight the failures.

How can it be hyocritical ? wrong wrong wrong, they are correct in keeping OPERATIOINAL matters to prevent people smuggling confidential, why give the deatils out and help them out, they are not as stupid and hopless in labor in handling this problem. The left have lost all standing in this argument, they had a go and ballsed it up. The people voted on the issue and roundly rejected the lefts policies, Look you need to accept this Swan, you are just beating yourself up on a defeated issue.

In regards to the RC on building union curruption, this is another loser for Shorten and the ALP, the minute they go in a bat for bikies, thugs and morons in the CFMEU they support them

You can always tell when a RC is needed becuase the people its going to be into tell you its not needed.

Even the catholic church supported the RC into instutional abuse once it was announced by gillard.

Paul Howes shows more spine than Shorty, he can clearly see that IR and unions in this country are stuffed, productivity has fallen steadily during the Gillard Rudd regimes...even Howes adnitted this.

The entire Pink Batts episode was a disgrace, it is mainly the victims family that want it held, its a no brianer..to me its the most obvious inquiry that must be held.

seems to me that the entire labor movement is very scarred and nervous about what might come out of this, HYPOCRITICAL to the max.

The latest on the boats:
As for the other fundamental election issue, people-smuggling, the Minister for Immigration, Scott Morrison, delivered another blow a few minutes after Hunt spoke: ''It has been more than 50 days since there has been a successful people-smuggling venture to arrive in Australia … In 2014, there have been no single ventures that have successfully arrived. That compares over the same period [last year] to 14 boats and 798 people. The message is certainly getting through.'' This is a disaster for Shorten. After six years of a multi-billion-dollar financial and policy black hole under Labor, the people-smuggling trade has been greatly suppressed within months by the new government."
