Well it looks likely that Abbott is going to continue the trend of breaking promises post the Federal election. It looks like he is planning a massive cut in the financial backing of the ABC.

Perhaps the most honest thing Abbott has said was when he made the comment that he was going to learn from Barnett. Certainly he has followed Barnett in breaking his promises.

Thanks to Labor's inability and mismanagement, we all will have to suffer a little to get the country up and running again. Still, it's good to have a government with a vision, balls and guts to do make the hard decisions.

I'm pretty sure he promised to stop the boats,,,he is on track will that one,

As for the ABC,,it's tax payer funded and no different to any other department when it comes to budget reviews. For mine they are being very indulgent now with a 24 hr news channel, JJJ etc,

You keep crapping on about the WA and Federal Governmets and their cutbacks but surely as a Swans supporter of all people you would understand that people can't keep spending money they don't have and cutting has to be done ????

The abc’s budget has increased from ~ $800 million to ~ $1.2 billion during the labor years.
Has anybodies pay increased by 50% in 6 years? Especially thru the GFC?
How can Australia, with a population the same as greater New York, afford to have 2 public carriers in the abc and sbs?
Its market demographic has become concentrated on inner city professionals and the so called intelligentsia of our major capitals. It has stopped treating all Australians equally for around two decades now.
How can it be independent when its reporting focuses on the same issues that are the platform of 2 of the major socialistic parties?
Why does it have so many channels, including radio?
It wouldn’t be because if it pushes the ideologies of these 2 parties it will get budget increases will it? That’s right, it did get an increase of $400 million.
I’ll never forget when George Negus on the lateline program attacked the Australian army in Afghanistan over a small skirmish that lead to some collateral deaths. Look at his attitude towards the Victoria cross winner on Channel tens, the circle. The man has become a traitor.
It’s time to dissolve the abc and incorporate it with sbs under a new charter.

Yep agree Devon, way too many Chanel's on TV and Radio. They should. Need no more than one TV station, covering basic public and current affairs and the classical arts that don't get airtime elesewhere and some sport from time to time, they once were an importamt news source for regional WA , but sine the advent of digital tv and the internet , this has faded as there are so many other sources in the bush now.

JJJ etc,

So what it's still recent compared to radio national and 720, there are endless plethora of FM stations pumping out music 24/ 7...there is no need for a tax payer funded JJJ,

jjj is an absolute disgrace of an organisation disguising itself as a radio station. All it does it pump out 'noises' that the idiot dj's tell us it's great...not to mention the filth that is aired. Unfortunately, I have a couple of airheads at work that have it blaring out every day. I think i'll jump onto the bandwagon and complain because their trash offends m
If we dissolve any radio stations, start here

Would much rather listen to JJJ than the commercial stations which play 5 songs a day repeated 50 times that we have going in our office, can usually hear 3 radios at once.....92.9, 93.7 and 96 (thats why i bring earphones to work).

I hate when people, liek yourself Shark, that calls a DJ an "idiot" that pumps out "noises" just because you are not a fan of that music. And then calling people that like this music airheads. I hear the same crap at work, but then when a commercial song that has been playing 1,000,000 times in the last 2 days comes on, they think its the best song ever, and they think this because they have heard it soooo much that it must be good. If you dont like the music, then dont listen to it, it is quite simple. If other people have it playing then put earphones in, its not too hard, dont just sit their and whinge.
