I was just going to message that I assumed this thread applied to footballers/cricketers since WA entered the shield in 1947/48 - my bad - because I was going to query Fred Buttsworth who played for the state just before the war. However, as it is pre-shield, there are Outridges (plural) and many others in the 1920s and 1930s fitting the bill.

SH there are 2 Fred Buttsworth's I assume Snr & Jnr as one (Snr) played cricket for WA in the 1920s whilst (Jnr) played cricket for WA 1947/48-1949/50 and WAFL & VFL football from 1942-1953.

AR yes Tom Outridge Jnr played cricket for WA (1948-53) & WAFL (1 game, 7 goals) for SU in 1944.

There wasnt a specific timeline on the availability but yes WA only started playing Sheffield Shield cricket in 1947/48, but we still played first class cricket against touring sides and other states occasionally before that.
There were a number of big names that played the odd game for WA before we started playing Sheffield Shield Cricket- William "Nipper" Truscott, Ron Doig, Bert Harrold, Carlisle "Bub" Jarvis & Jim Ditchburn included.
