Some personal observations of the game:
  1. The boys hit the game hard and threw the Tigers off early, this set the tone for the rest of the match
  2. Poor 3rd quarter allowed Claremont to take control and get back into the game. Swans just dropped the pressure a notch but picked it up again in the last quarter when the Tigers had nothing left.
  3. Notte continues to grow as a player, he is a lot stronger in marking contests
  4. Lobb wasn’t disgraced in his battle against Seaby and Andrews, puts his body on the line and reads the play well
  5. Charlie Cameron is a gun. Some of his second efforts were better than his flashy stuff which was brilliant as well
  6. By contrast, Dayle Garlett needs to work on his efforts when he hasn’t got the ball. He has got loads of talent but AFL clubs look for work rate as well
  7. I don’t know why Murray Newman left the ground but whatever the reason, its obvious that he is not in a good place at the moment
  8. Elari and Rogers are turning out to be very good pick ups. Rogers has a raking kick, which caught the Claremont defence napping on a few occasions. Elari is doing a lot of the grunt work that Josh Roberts used to do.
  9. Swans defence is a great unit led by Tallen Ames with Kyle Hams, Josh Simpson and Graham Jetta are able deputies. They have only conceded 100 points twice in the past 8 rounds (103 v East Perth and 100 v Perth)
  10. The experienced players in midfield are running into form at the right end of the season with Riggio, Roach, Twomey and Robinson all getting some great numbers at the moment.
  11. Ryan Davis is a very strong player who often creates a path for his teammates. He is also a reliable shot for goals and an alternative to Swoop in the forward line
  12. Swans should realise that whilst this was a good win, Claremont were not at their best and because Swans have had a poor first 8 rounds they cannot afford to take any game lightly. A loss to East Perth next week may have them back in 5th spot, one game out of the four

..I just take exception to a WP supporter not even at the game "commenting" or more like shit stirring that Claremont layed down when those of us there at Claremont Oval yesterday saw first hand how hard Claremont worked to get numbers back behind the ball then slingshot forward when they won possession, especially in the 3rd qtr were the Tigers ran themselves ragged to kick 6 goals to Swans 2 to give them a sniff at 3 qtr time, hardly the signs of a side apparently "laying down" & not too mention the healthy rivalry between the 2 clubs were we know how much Claremont love to beat Swans!

BH, commenting thanks, Im not a fan of shit stirring (unless it involves the Ferals)! I have said for about 4-5 weeks that CL were coming back to the pack and I think that the 2013 flag is not necessarily set in stone. When you blokes hit the wall about 4-5 weeks ago, all that I kept hearing was it doesn't matter anyway as CL are a class above the rest of the comp, horse shit I say !

They were "lazy" in the 2nd half against us a month ago, they came off a loss to Subi the week before and they have since fallen over the line to EF and SF, I think my point is blatantly made. Anyway Im glad Swans are up and about again as the SD forum 4 weeks ago was resembling the Perth forum of last year and bits of this year !

I was talking about Cardy mate as he reckoned Claremont "layed down" yesterday!

mikeh wrote: Guys as much as todays win was an excellent one by the boys, I wouldn't get carried away about it. Really we had heaps more motivation than they did, they are going through a bit of a slump at the moment and some of their key guys are feeling their way back after injury. It may be a bit tougher when we go back there in four weeks. They are not on top of the ladder for no reason and this loss may be a blessing for Webb.

Mikeh rest assured Claremont had as much, if not more, motivation than us. A win by Claremont would have made it very difficult for us to make the finals given that we also play them again, the club formerly known as East Perth and West Perth in coming weeks.

How many people want to buy land from Worobec after he gave Claremont an 80 + meter penalty?

Mikeh you and I obviously weren't watching the same game with respect to Garlett. I reckon he set the tone for his game early in the first quarter when he worked his way back to half back flank to make a lead.

Special mention should go to Bennell who unquestionably played his best game for us on Saturday.

I thinl Saturday's game will be the benchmark for the rest of our matches this year and showed the players that they do have the ability to match it with the best when we showed application and attitude.

Garlett's defensive pressure wasnt great though, compare it to Charlie Cameron who laid 7 tackles and was brilliant at putting his body on the line..

MO I am not saying that he has reached the limit with respect to his defensive side. I can recall a certain Lewis Jetta who may not have reached the ultimate when it came to his defensive mindset when he was playing at Swans. I do think that Garlett has made huge advances in terms of his attitude etc from the start of the year and I suspect he will continue that improvement going forward.

I certainly don't want to undersell Charlie Cameron's efforts either. Overall, if you were a Swans' supporter watching on Saturday you would have to have been very impressed with what you saw.

Also, I think that Ryan Davis will be very high in our F&B count this season. Hopefully, no Swans' supporter now questions the value of Tony Notte either.

We still have a long way to go in this season.

He's been one of our more important players for a few years now. I'd be concerned if this weekend's game was the catalyst for people to change their opinion!

Dirty Weekender wrote: Mac may still be celebrating Swan Ath's big win over Maddington today Kaos. Keeps their season alive. Very intense 4qtr performance today by the boys with a short bench after Newman disappeared. Keep building on that kind of intensity and we are a big show for the business end of this season. Was entertaining footy to watch as well on top of a great win. Well played fellas and big ups to Lobb on a very competitive display today.

Was at claremont to see this one fellas and would have to say I agree with most of Mikeh's points he summarised.

Having a very good back six is the key and with so much talent upfield performing on our day we can beat anyone, still some very good flags odds running around.

Kaos - as I have mentioned previously, it is talent/experience, not coaching and a game plan that is winnning games.

With all due respect Mikeh i think your way off the mark saying they didnt have anything riding on the game, try telling that to Ian Richardson who put his body in a contest late in the game and got crunched and got helped off ( i gave him a sendoff too haha) but the reality is we did something no other side has done for 2 years and that is pump the best side in the comp playing a style of footy (hard and inside) that they hate. Psychologically it us important as well as we know if we do make finals we can confidently say we can take anyone down, atm knowone else can have that confidence..i am starting think some people from other clubs are jealous they havnt been able to knock them off. The dribble i heard from Paul Murray on PR (WP fan) and Gossage saying Claremont may have held back is utter bullsh1t . Says more about their footy knowlege really and Goss should know better!
Beneath the Southern cross i stand, on Bassendean Oval, can in hand, Swan Districts, you Farkin Beauty!
