Only if Byford want a team that win 3 games every year.
It's not the size of the dog in the fight. It's the size of the fight in the dog.
Winning isn't everything. It's the ONLY THING !!!!!!

When we beat Peel in June, they had 11 Dockers players. Of those, 9 played yesterday ( Erasmus, Blakely, Worner, Meek, Hamling, Treacy, Henry, Sturt and Crowden) The two players that didnt suit up yesterday were Johnson and Kuek.
Peel then added 6 other Dockers players yesterday to make up 15 (Tucker, Hughes, Tabener, Colyer, Banfield and Wilson) all but Hughes are senior players who have played quite a few gamesĀ in the Dockers AFL team. So yesterdays Peel team was infinitely better than the one we beat in June
Coupled with the fact that Swans had also lost the services of our best backman (Tony Notte) and a key midfielder (Tobe Watson,) its probably not a great surprise that we got belted. Men vs boys really

I acknowledge Peels Freo players but SD effort and game plan was embarrassing.
They simply failed to show up. The talk during the game was sadly lacking.
It was exactly the same agst EF away from home with virtually no leadership on ground.
There is no way that fringe AFL players are that much better than us.
The only Peel player who is a class above is Taberner and he was kept relatively quiet..
We continue to make dumb decisions at crucial times..

I really hope SD review the head coach. I fail to see with the squad he has that finishing 6th is an acceptable position.
We lost one home game all year!! Not good enough and it starts at training.
Change is needed at the top quickly

We always knew Peelmantle were always going to be tough to beat down there with 15 Dockers playing but I tend to think we contributed to our own demise as we were equally as poor as they were dominant especially with our execution.
But having said that lets not kid ourselves here these boys are drafted (or should be) because they are the best players going around in the State Leagues which means their alignment team in this case Peel have access to approximately depending on availability 10-15 of the best kids in the country playing for them.
Yesterday Peel only had 6 local kids playing in their team (Barnes from SF) and the Dockers boys kicked 18.14 of their final score of 18.20 with 4 rushed behinds included. Hayden Matthews with 2 points was the only Peel player to get on the scorecard!
I think there was a stat from waflfootyfacts that the games difference between the 2 teams was astronomical about 1000 games difference and most of that was in the AFL in which we only had Palmer who played 4 games at Port....and lets face it the gulf between afl and wafl level is substantial and gets wider every season and I dont think the afl now is even as good as the footy I watched in the 1980/90s.
Mroddson not just Taberner who is a class above, Meek would be the number 1 ruck at a number of afl clubs, Hamling played in an afl Premiership not long back and would have played close to 100 afl games, Colyer & Tucker ditto, Blakely, Hughes, Banfield all between 50-100 afl games so these are not just the best talented kids they are experienced, solid bodied, cool heads etc.
Even the 6 Peel guys they had have all played a lot of WAFL footy now Bell, Hancock, Bennell, Sears, Matthews whilst Anderson could be the rookie of the year in the WAFL for mine.
But yes at Swans if we are to take the next step and be a Top 2 or 3 side we have to get serious about every part of our football department whether it be recruiting, coaching, strength & conditioning, development, skills, decision making etc otherwise we will continue to languish between 5th qnd 10th on the ladder!

Is Pickering's contract up for renewal? If so I think the coaching position would be worth reviewing. The only issue is whether the board thinks another coach could get any more out of this group. My view is that the team should have played finals this year given their record at home so maybe the players need a different approach to get them to the next level.

I suppose the question is if there is anyone out there who would be better than the current regime and who would be willing to take it on. Keeping in mind there are also 2 other clubs in the market for a new coach.

Speaking of recruiting there is some talent in the Peel Colts that could be worth a look at.
As lets face it there are only ever going to be a handful of spots up for grabs for locals in the Peel League team with Fremantle completely taking over the reins down there!

Very true BH, I hope Rod Tregenza has a word in his son's ear and tells him to try and replicate his old man's feats at EF.

I agree with the comments that Swans played their grand final last week against West Perth and expended so much energy into that, they had nothing left in the tank for yesterday. Whoever Peel put out next week they will find stiffer opposition in the Doggies and I reckon Souths can come out on top if they play at their best.
