Why have Claremont moved to all navy blue socks instead of the old navy blue & gold hoops, ditto getting rid of the large gold sash across the front of the jumper for a smaller CFC monogram?
Surely when they play SD it would be advised to wear that as not too clash as from the back of the jumpers both sides are almost identical?
The classic non decision was just after that TOO with the high tackle on Bain for Swans who was almost decitated to all and sundry bar the 3 umpires who said play on as his head was still attached to his neck....only after picking it up off Guildford Rd and reattaching it!
Yep BH, the same three umpires that none of seemed to see young Bains neck get strangled were the same three umpires that didn't seem to notice the blatant deliberate out of bounds a minute earlier! I suppose they're consistent?
Agree with you Tiger - very lucky to get away with it. Umpiring decisions and umpires rarely get under my skin, but having the combination of umpires Fry and Dugan and their inconsistency two weeks' in a row in SD matches is testing.
I was at the Guildford end of the ground so I didn't get a proper close up view of the out of bounds incident at the time. However I had a look at the channel 7 replay of the game and when I saw this, I was staggered that a free wasn't paid. It just looked so blatantly obvious.
It was interesting that in the previous round Swans got a free for a deliberate point against Perth which was the correct decision because the Perth player was more than 10 metres out from goal when he conceded. On this occasion the Swans player would have been OK if the ball had gone through for a point as it was closer than 10 metres. I'm sure that is what he intended to do but the fact is that it crossed the boundary line and should have resulted in a free kick to Claremont. The intent is irrelevant in this case.
I have no idea why the two umpires didn't pay that. A brain fade perhaps or given it was just about in front of the Mcdonald Stand maybe they were subconciously worried about the reaction of the ferals in there! Anyones guess really but as TOO said, if Claremont had recieved a free kick for that and converted, it would have been a very interesting last minute of the game.
I remember a similar incident at East Fremantle last year when a Sharks player deliberately knocked the ball over the line in Swans forward pocket late in the last quarter of a game with Swans under a goal behind but was not penalised .
