Gee thanks for that BC, of course you are entitled to your opinion. I disagree with it but that's what these forums are all about, everyone has different experiences and perspectives on things.

Agreed Mike. I didn't want to disrespect you as you're amongst the fairer and measured posters on here but I do disagree with your observations, so let's leave it at that....oh...and well done to your boys on Saturday.  That's a huge win for your club and the comp in general as I think the Tiges are the real deal this year.

Yes it was great to have our first win over them for 5 years. Sets up a good clash between Swans and Subi in Kalgoorlie in a couple of weeks which I believe is being broadcast live on Channel 7.

Why have Claremont moved to all navy blue socks instead of the old navy blue & gold hoops, ditto getting rid of the large gold sash across the front of the jumper for a smaller CFC monogram?
Surely when they play SD it would be advised to wear that as not too clash as from the back of the jumpers both sides are almost identical?

The classic non decision was just after that TOO with the high tackle on Bain for Swans who was almost decitated to all and sundry bar the 3 umpires who said play on as his head was still attached to his neck....only after picking it up off Guildford Rd and reattaching it!

Yep BH, the same three umpires that none of seemed to see young Bains neck get strangled were the same three umpires that didn't seem to notice the blatant deliberate out of bounds a minute earlier! I suppose they're consistent?

Just had a look at the Channel 7 replay of the last quarter and I noticed that there was some unpleasant interaction between Bolton and a few of the Swans players during the handshakes after the final siren and Bolton ended up pushing one of the Swans guys. Was anyone close enough to notice what happened there?
Bolton is a deadset flog Mike, a very sore loser.
Remember his carry on after a game at Basso a few years back giving the up yours towards SD members?
Maybe he was asked why there wasnt a repeat follow up response after yesterdays game?
Was it he who pushed 17yo Hewett to the ground whilst all others were shaking hands after the game or their boofhead ruckman?
Either way it was very poor form and not surprising!

And BC the "old wooden fence" as you termed it is only a couple of years old after being replaced not long back!

Fair enough BH. My previous comment is withdrawn and I duly apologise. As I said, I haven't been to Basso for a couple of years and last time I was there, the fence was falling down and in urgent need of some paint.

I really enjoy Bassendean. Mainly for the old stands and picket fence, but also for the 60s ? Higgledy-piggledy club rooms. The wierd benches, and the history as Mike described it. With the supporters,  it is the closest we have to the old wafl vibe.

Outside of the playing serface. And I know they have worked on that the last couple of summers. But we will see how it holds up in the wetter winter months.
Painting the timber stands.Replacing broken pickets, paint and new floor coverings in the members.I recon half a mill $500,000 would be enough to fix the ground up.
The big one would be improved lighting.Expensive but twilight autumn and spring games at Steele Blue. And a summer co tennent.
Perth Heat baseball spent a couple of summers at Basso.Pretty sure there some annual car shows also held there. Also been some live music events there..

Most of Bassendean Oval is heritage listed like the picket fence, McDonald Stand, Billy Walker Stand and the Bassendean Oval Gates on the corner of Old Perth Rd & West Rd.
But lighting similar to what is now at Lathlain would really add to the ground as well I believe.
All four Saturday's so far in this season have been around the 30 degree mark and have been quite warm conditions for playing and watching footy, having the option to play in twilight or night would be far more pleasant viewing experience imho.
I also tend to think the footy is of a better standard at night when played under good lights.
Just need the funding now.........
