GTR I reckon we should have won that game by 5 goals if not for some average foot skills and shall we say some "interesting umpiring"!
Claremont had 42 free kicks today, is that some sort of record????

Agree BH we where the better side for 3 of the 4.
42'would be up there as a record. If Swans employed some tactical plan,to slow the Claremont mids. They still got plenty of footy.
But when two players are holding each other .The Umpires normally ignore it and play on.Not in the second half today.

Great win by SD.....though in all honesty considering EP - 11,  Peel - 12 & SF - 17 tally of  free kicks for   v 23,  38 & 42 free kicks  against respectively, not sure SD were overly hard done by on the overall free kick tally discrepancy front .....SD got 36 kicks themselves ....3rd best tally out the 8 clubs playing WAFL league today.

Good win. I thought we were the best team all day in a low standard game - stats mean nothing. Good seeing Swans with a more flexible game plan than previously, with Palmer the focus in the first half and then later the high marking Jones that answered a question from last week about whether he is a forward or back. But thank god for Jones and his pack marking - our short passing in the forward line was pathetic today.

Great win today against Claremont.  Well Done boys!

Clearances out the centre we got some problems.  Germs doing well in ruck just no one to grab the footy. I noticed today when Tobe Watson went to the centre we did win clearances. Still lacking that strong body midfielder.

Fixturing of other games before the league game is a concern. Maybe the standard of umpiring is also having an effect on crowd numbers.

Looks like there are about 4-5 players in the ressies knocking on the door for league selection in the near future.  Kemp and Cipro but also Cartwright and Chipper. Despite the ressies struggling for the wins.

The reason for the high free kicks total is the players and their stats have been listed twice. The only column that doesnt seem to have been affected is the goals.

First win over Claremont since 2017 and it was one to savour. Claremont had the ball a lot more than we did and had the top 3 possession winners on the ground. Bolton had 51 disposals would you believe but many of his kicks and handballs whilst quite effective didn't lead to much on the scoreboard because our guys were constantly putting pressure on the players who were receiving his passes. Our defence is the cornerstone of the team and they were magnificent today, particularly the evergreen Tony Notte who is performing as well as he ever has. Those intercept marks in the defensive 50 in the last quarter were gold.

We were up for the game from the start and were putting together some good transitions of play out of the backline. However on many occasions  a misdirected kick into the forward 50 would let us down and enable Claremont to break up many of our forward sorties.

Despite this Swans still had enough opportunities to score because of the intensity  with which our guys were attacking the ball. However  when the forwards did get a look, they missed some very gettable shots in the first half, in particular I can't believe how poorly Noble is kicking at the moment. He shanked a couple of shots that he would normally have no problems with.

At half time with Swans at 4- 10, I really thought we had blown our opportunity to win the game and when Claremont opened up a 2 goal lead early in the 3rd I wasnt hopeful. But the boys proved me wrong and they dug deep to snatch the lead back again. Jones has been a revelation at full forward and he has totally changed the dynamic of the forward line and makes Palmers job a bit easier.

The 4th quarter was an arm wrestle and it was anyone's game going into the time on period. There were a lot of mistakes and turnovers as both teams were fatigued towards the end, it was a very warm day for footy. I sensed that Swans had a bit more run in the last 10 minutes which got them over the line. Germs was great today but we are still having problems getting our share of clearances. Around the ground though Turner, Clarke, Riley, Bain, Watson and Fisher were all prominent without being as prolific as Claremont's top 3. I think it was a more even team performance though and that's why we got the points.

Jesse Palmer played a lot better today although he is still spilling marks that he was gobbling up last year. Thomas Edwards is a very talented young player but sometimes I think he gets a bit fixed on trying to take a Speccy mark and as a result gave away a few free kicks today.

This was a very important monkey to get off our back because it is so long since we have beaten the Tigers and this will hopefully give them the confidence to tackle the 3 other teams that they have struggled to beat in the last 7 or 8 years.
