TOPIC:

Spring is in the air so that must mean it is WAFL footy finals time.
We travel up the Mitchell Fwy to Joondalup to take on the Falcons in the Elimination Final.
WP are always tough to beat up there and Swans will have to play out of their skin just to take it up to them.
Will be interesting to see who comes back in for us after wholesale changes last week due to injury- will any of the likes of Gault, Fisher, Anderson, Jetta, Reidy, Wilson, Howard or Ireland be right to go for Sunday?
With WP you know what you will get every week- a 110% effort lead by the likes of Black, Nelson, Manzone, Pierce, Lynch etc in the midfield, dangerous goalkickers in Keitel, Knott, Riddoch & Kernutt up forward and a tight checking, hard running defence, plus not too forget a very, very, very good run with the whistle!
If we can bring some of the effort and footy we have produced at different times during the season we can take it up to anyone, just fingers crossed we show most of it it this week!

Riddoch seems to play his best footy against Swans BH. I reckon he turned that game at Joondalup earlier in the season when we were on top early in the match. He is a brilliant impact player but hopefully due for an off game on Sunday. Of the list of outs for last week, I'm sure we will see Fisher, Anderson, Jetta and Reidy back in the team. Howard and Ireland will be dependent on injury recovery and Gault would be no chance having not played a competitive game for nearly 2 months. Wilson played in the reserves last Saturday so not sure what was going on there.

The last encounter at Bassendean a few months ago was one sided because they smashed us in the midfield. Black was not as prolific as he usually is but they have others who can pick up the mantle. They also have a forward line led by Keitel capable of kicking 15 goals so our defence will be working overtime all day.

I don't think Swans can win a shoot-out against these guys and I think our only chance is if we can make it intense and put pressure on their key ball winners all day like they did against Subiaco a few months back. That was an 8 goal to 7 scoreline and I think if we are to win it will be a similar margin.

I have been in the NT for the past few weeks and I won't be back in time for the game, so I am hoping that Swans can pull off an upset so that I can see them in a semi final the next week. Will be following the scores on the WAFL Website and would appreciate a match report if you have time BH.

As mentioned the biggest task will be to get a fair run from the Umps as Joondy are their pets. 54 free's in their last two games, about double that which their opponents received. mind boggling given one of those games they lost by 7 goals!!!

SS shock horror WP won the free kick count yet again in 2021! 

BH, the game being at Joondy will definitely mean you will have to beat the 18 plus the 3. Hope I'm wrong but if you win the free kick count it will be a shock to everyone. Good luck.

Pretty much the strongest possible team Swans can put on the park minus Corey Gault, so I hope the boys give it their all on Sunday and if their best is still not good enough to beat West Perth well so be it.
An encouraging statistic for Swans is that they have a 6-1 record against West Perth in finals. Unfortunately our recent record against the Falcons doesn't look so good with only 3 wins out of the last 15 encounters. One of these wins was their last elimination final v West Perth at Bassendean in 2017. Our most recent win at Joondalup was 2019 by 44 points, so maybe they can draw on these rare victories for some inspiration.

I don’t know about that Mike, East Freo did a job on us a couple of weeks ago and we have lost our best defender Pegs , that’s a big ouch…so anyone’s game I recon, I hope we get a healthy Swans crowd to the game 🤟
