i am surprised swans extended his contract.even before the loss to the falcons. i thought he would need to lead the swans into a finals appearance.maybe worried that he might get a gig elsewhere.

Very low key and flat in the quarter time and 3 quarter time huddles yesterday. Understandable at 3 quarter time given that the game was gone then anyway. But at quarter time there also seemed to be a lack of urgency and energy amongst the group even though they were only a few goals down. Even at that stage I feared that the team were going to get a belting because they just did not appear to be up for the contest.

Were the players underwhelmed by Pickering's contract extension?

Must admit that thought crossed my mind Swan42, although it may be that the team realised early in the game that they were up against a vastly superior team and that may have effected the mood in the huddles.

In my original post I said it was an interesting move.  I used the term interesting to gauge what other supporters thought of the idea rather than as a response to my opinion.  In my view there was very little, if any, justification for extending Pickering's contract at this time.  I don't believe that Pickering has materially improved our performances.  Any improvement we have had this year is a direct result of our recruits rather than because of Pickering.  I don't think our game plan is any better in 2021.  Our best scoring performance was in our first match of the season and that was predicated on our kicking 18 goals out of 19 scoring shots.

Having seen what I saw yesterday I tend to agree that Swans should have waited till later in the season at least before triggering a new  contract.

In Pickering's 4 years at Swans how many times have we beaten any of the perennial Top 4 sides- SU, CL, SF or WP?

The answer to your question have Swans improved under his coaching will be in the answer to the above!

BH
Subiaco 0 wins 7 losses
South Fremantle 0 wins 5 losses
Claremont 0 wins 6 losses
West Perth 1 win 6 losses

so under Pickering against these teams we have 1 win and 24 losses. Pretty telling statistic.

A very telling statistic isnt it Mike.
I wonder if our board did this research before they inexplicably announced this contract extension decision last week.
Why we couldnt have waited to see how 2021 played out in entirety before jumping the gun has me bemused.
I also believe we may not win another game this year from the rubbish I saw dished up on Saturday.
The performance lacked skill, effort, physicality, hardness, strong decision making etc etc.
If the club does end up with a 5 wins-13 loss record or similar at the end of this season does that mean with this premature decision we could be forced into a pay out or did we think to have a stipulation in place in case of disaster which Saturday could well be the start of?
Also by the effort or lack thereof of the playing group on the weekend do we believe the player group are not fully on board with this premature decision?
