Well I’ll be blown. We were smashing them and then dried up and thought I’d have to chew on my terry towelling bucket hat but we steadied and now sit 2nd. Back where we belong. That big lump of a lad iSimpson always does well.
i wouldn't get ahead of yourself.you've beaten two ordinary sides and a misfiring demons.on what i saw of swans they have a lot of work to do.i suspect swans  will finish 4-6 side depending on whether perth and peel hit their straps.i can't see them bothering claremont and souths and i think even subi . are a class above.

I think most Swans supporters would agree with your assessment Chaddy. In my view Swans were lucky to win the game today.

swans are at least heading in the right direction unlike the royals who have gone backwards in minimal recruiting and losing a lot of players which has robbed them of depth.swans just were able to make the most of their chances.swans  are obviously better then last year but will stii need to improve a lot to trouble the big boys.

Given that Lewis Jetta was selected in the initial squad but didn't play , you would assume he would have been close to 100% but maybe they didn't want to take the risk. In that case he may be fit for the game v West Perth next week where he would be a handy addition. Jesse Turner has another week of suspension to serve, I think Swans really felt his absence yesterday given he is such a prolific ball winner. Apart from Jetta possibly coming in I cant see too many changes next week, they may consider another big man option to support Gault as he had to battle pretty much alone against the East Perth rucks. In my opinion Noble is a better option as a leading forward.
The other change they may consider is to bring Warwick Wilson in, he is one of our better kicks and the quality of Swans disposals fell away somewhat yesterday against the pressure that East Perth were able to bring to bear after quarter time

No Jetta and no Turner who are two of our very best. 3 and 1 and both of those returning shortly so I’m an one happy laddie.

Firstly I have to say I am very happy we were able to come away with the 4 points at Leederville Oval, a ground we have been very ordinary at for far far too long (and even in large parts of Saturdays game) vs WP, EP & SU in the 40+ years I have been following SD & the WAFL and even long before that looking at the statistics!
Well we started the game as well if not better than Rd1 vs Claremont with some precise, committed, direct footy, if only we could play like that for a full 4 QTRS.
But much like that same game we went missing in the 2nd qtr but then also m.i.a in the 3rd qtr as well and even into early in the last qtr when EP had all the play and Simpson (who killed us for the second season running) put the Royals in front with a snap about 10 minutes into the last qtr.
Once again some of our decision making with the footy during this period left a lot to be desired and it is like we just switch off, just choosing wrong options when going forward or moving the ball from defence that needs to be remedied asap if we are to match it with the best 4 sides in the WAFL- CL, SF, WP & SU.
It took until EP actually hitting the front for some of our blokes to extract the digit that had been firmly in place since the qtr time break and we suddenly not only started to match the desperation of the EP side but even (with maybe a couple of extra petrol tickets left) got on top in that key statistic of contested/hard ball gets.
Full credit to Riggs who played on hurt from early in the game as a deep forward out of the square to give us another rotation and was instrumental in our last couple of goals by giving a great contest and being able to dish off a handball to allow Reidy to run into goal and also Noble who battled on after a heavy knock in the ruck.
I thought Frank was superb for us and probably played his best game here, Fish was very good as always and our backline held up ok especially early and late in the game with Jones, Stephens, Howard etc taking some strong contested intercept marks in our D50.

A good win to the Reserves against a side who have been quite dominate of late in that grade and many guys putting pressure on our League team whilst the Colts were a bit disappointing I thought although they came up against a very good side who seem to have our measure of late and we have some work to do if we want to compete against those better Colts teams.

On skill and smarts alone Warwick should be playing League soon but the only question mark at this stage would be on his fitness to run out a League game after missing all of last season.

Where were you on Saturday 42?

Pickering was pleased with the win on Saturday, particularly considering the two injured players who bravely played on and made a contribution.
He also made it clear that Swans still have a fair way to go to match it with the best teams in the competition but we are gradually building and improving from his first two years ( 2018-19) where they won very few games.
The 4 Victorian recruits have made a massive difference to the team and to some extent have filled the gap which existed between the veterans and the young players.
Better times are definitely ahead.
