Mikeh you are a negative nelly laddie. Swans are a 8 goal better team than the royals and if we don't win by 4 goals I will eat my hat. After all, I'm still hungry from all the steak dinners you young bucks owe me from last year. The improvement has been very pleasing and we will be playing finals pending injury. Cant make the game but I predict a 14 goal to 5 victory.

Gotta love the new belief that we are capable and can realistically expect a 14 goal return on any given Saturday - times they are a changin...

based purely on your optimism Marley think I’ll take the long hike across the road and have a looksee at this one this afternoon

ps : don’t forget your hat...it’s sunny outside :-)

Well I’ll be blown. We were smashing them and then dried up and thought I’d have to chew on my terry towelling bucket hat but we steadied and now sit 2nd. Back where we belong. That big lump of a lad Simpson always does well.

Tough win at a ground we don't play well.Set up with 5 goals v 0 at 1/4.
Defence held well under pressure with EP's big forwards.A little lucky in the 3rd QTR with the Royals having plenty of the footy. And not kicking straight..
No football budget drove me crazy today. Not knowing the EP players.
Beautiful autumn day.Pity Covid scared some fans away..The game deserved a far bigger crowd...Can't wait till EP at Basso.

Geez they made hard work of that. I thought it was going to be a 10 goal plus victory at quarter time, but credit to East Perth for digging deep and turning the game around in the 2nd and 3rd quarters. They lifted their intensity massively after the first quarter and with the exception of a few players Swans failed to match them. The Royals would be very disappointed with their shooting for goal in the 3rd quarter (2 -10), they really should have turned for home with a 3 goal lead and the game may well have panned out differently in the final quarter if that had been the case. As it was the effort of the comeback took its toll on the East Perth players and they seemed spent in the last 15 minutes, especially when Swans snatched back the lead. In the end a very lucky win in my opinion but we will take the four points and move on. The fade out in the middle of the game will not cut it though against South Fremantle, Subiaco and Claremont so we still have a way to go.
Fisher and Anderson were both brilliant all day and they kept Swans in the game when they werent playing well. Our defence held up OK in the face of the East Perth onslaught.

I wasn't able to get to the game today.  Was there a specific explanation as to why we kicked 6 goals in the first quarter and then only 4 goals for the rest of the match?

Looking at the scoreboard at one stage late I saw the Royals got their snouts in front and I thought it might have been a mis-post or one of swans' numbers had fallen off , just hung on there lads in what did end up a typical Swan Districts v East Perth game
Another good un

In the early 1980s invariably we would be around 3 to 4 goals down at 3/4 time against EP.   With the team we had at the time I was generally very confident that we would get over the top of EP.

Simple answer to that question Swan42....after quarter time EP were twice as hard at it. For the rest of the match we didn’t match their intensity, got well beat in the air and reality is it was only EP’s inability to consistently hit targets that kept us in it.
Very noticeable how much we miss the work rate of Jessie Turner today . Also Riggs & Noble seemed to be soldiering on through some discomfort in the second half. Hope they’ve pulled up alright.

Thanks DW.   Just looking at the qtr-by-qtr scores, I thought that maybe we had stopped attacking and reverted back to the ugly 18 players in our back line.
