Swan: if you lose tomorrow and everyone else above you wins, you will be two games out of the five. More broadly Swan, if you include the last six games of 2014 -- losses -- the club has won four games in sixteen. It should also be noted that two of your wins have been against the bottom side, whom have won one game in sixteen.

Completely ignore what happened in the latter half of 2014; completely irrelevant as the board made a decision with respect to Harding's contract after the end of 2014 season.

I repeat why would Swans' board consider Harding's future in the context of the result at East Freo Oval on Sunday?

The answer of course is that they won't. Harding was reappointed because he was doing the job that the board asked him to do, that is to provide opportunities and develop the young players in the club. This was the only path for Swans due to their financial constraints. Whatever way you look at it, he did an outstanding job to coach the team into the top 4 last year ahead of some much better credentialed teams.

Swans have been inconsistent this year but that is a trait of young players and it is not surprising that they have been up and down. At their best they can beat anybody but they need to learn to sustain that effort over 4 quarters. Harding has given opportunities to the 2014 colts players this year but many of them will take time to find their feet. It is totally different to be a coach of a cash laden club like Subiaco where you can just nominate a gap in your team and go out and recruit a player who will address that need. Far more challenging for a coach is to develop young players into positions where they can excel long term. Overall I think Harding has grown into the job after a somewhat shaky start in 2011.

It is good to see my SD friends are wide awake and thanks for your responses. The board re-appointed him because you made the four in spite of the bad run towards the end of last season. If you don't make the five this season, people down your way will start asking questions.

I guess Harding has the job for life then mikeh, be interesting to see what happens when SD junior success cycle has a blip then......or the pull of the country dollar becomes stronger as the AFL draft dream fades for todays youngster and they realise the simple kudos being a WAFL league footballer just doesnt cut it anymore.......that is why Nottes feat of 150 games will become a WAFL rarity.......
