Footy, like most major sports is a brutal business at times, certainly at fulltime professional level like AFL, NRL & A league, teams do whats required in the pursuit of success. Similar at WAFL/SANFL level, if the club believes the Coach or the list are not doing the job, then they will make the changes in the clubs best interests not the individuals, take a look at Claremonts decision on their league coach. Team success is or should be the primary aim of footy clubs at state league or national otherwise you may as well accept the WAFL is simply a breeding ground for the AFL and nothing else, which is what the AFL want, but I certainly dont. Footy's a business, like any other, if the business is not successful, then you have to make the tough decisions.

Any likely debutants this week? Looking at pre-season games, probably only Reuben McGuire and Cody Smith who are in with a shot

English, Dixon and Schoenfeld will all debut for EF. Be interesting to see what the coach does at the selection table after that win over WCE....first pre-season win in over 4-5 years surely should count for something for those who played in it....

Chalmers too to play his first league game in blue and white. 

Scratch Matches all done, any left field selections for the Peel game? Seems like all 6 new recruits will play tomorrow, only injuries I can see of note are Ritchie(knee) and Bonomelli (foot) - both out long term. Sounds like McGuire might be Strnadica's back up ruck, though if Dixon is fit, no doubt he will ruck along side Strnadica. Sounds like Bockman kicked a couple along with AFL Academy youngster  Jack Williams, young backs in Haddow and Gorringe seem to hold their own too v WCE, any chance any of those boys getting a first round gig? Be interesting to see what sort of team Peel throw out with Freo's current injury concerns.


 

I would’ve thought all the new guys play, though Dixon hasn’t played last couple so he may be a question mark. Gorringe, McGuire and Haddow have all played practice games- I think McGuire has played all 3, so he’s probably the biggest chance.

Forward line is the biggest question mark. O’Reilly kicked 3 last week, which is more than Bailey kicked in 3 games- has he done enough? Bailey seems to be a favourite. Tassone, Monaghan and Lester-Smith haven’t set world alight- though Jr has been kicking goals again so I’d say he’d be a likely starter. Snadden has played 2 Ressies games but League last week- Davies, Boekhorst and O’Reilly have also played Reserves so it’ll be interesting to see where they start

The team is up - no surprises.8 man bench named just a question of who they go with - Personally I would go with Snadden, OReilly, Murphy and Bailey but for some reason think Jnr, Tassone, Meade and Davidson will get the nod.
