If only we could have Swan's money - you can keep your wooden spoon though.

I may sound like an old fogey stuck in the past (probably because that's what I am) but I find all this bagging of facilities unedifying. For my part, I don't want WAFL clubs to all have sleek, modern, bland facilities. I love the old WAFL grounds, the grandstands, the fading carpet, the peeling paint, the splintery seats. I much preferred the old Claremont Oval. I will be shattered when the Lathlain grandstand comes down. Yes, I get it, clubs needs to make money and attract a newer generation of fans, but while a few upgrades might be ok, I don't want to see wholesale changes at any ground. Too bad for me, I guess, that Lathlain is undergoing the biggest transformation of any ground. Such is progress. So for my part, I hate Moss St too, but only because we lose there all the time. I have no problem at with the facilities. Nor Freo, nor Basso, or anywhere else.

Agree 100% Ted. East Freo may be a shit heap but home games are still my favourite games to attend. Opposition fans only have 1 game to attend there which is not compulsory. So why come on here to point out its shortcomings? that is unedifying and a poor reflection on them. The best viewing positions on most grounds is on the west wing and alleviated - something East Freo does not offer where as Claremont, MRP, Joondy, Leederville and Peel do. That to me is the worse thing about Moss Street.

You adapt or you won’t survive, the WAFL needs to attract a new generation of people to the game, if you don’t think good facilities play a part in attracting people to the game then no wonder your club is broke.

So thinking that good facilities play a part in attracting people will change the clubs financial position? not sure it is as simple as that. Surely EFFC has to be able to find funding first. Anyway would you not be better off worrying about your club? - your ground is a dump too and you came dead last!

Stand the Test wrote: I agree with Ted up to a point.

I disagree on the following

His use of the word ‘unedifying’

Any defence of wafl facilities on any basis which could include either of Fremantle’s grounds. They are enough to put you off watching footy live, just appalling. I have wandered both for decades trying to find somewhere good to watch a game from. It is my view there is no such place at either shit hole. Their supporters are very wrong to defend them at all. They are terrible, just terrible. I hate going to both and it has nothing to do with our win loss.

That lathlain will ever be done up. Why would Ted think this is actually going to happen?

Would you visit someones house and comment that you don't like the carpet or blinds or furniture knowing full well they are struggling to make ends meet? Most of the grounds are outdated but the clubs as we all well know don't have 20 million stuffed under the mattress to pullout to build something new. That is why it is a little unedifying to look down your nose because a club cannot do what Claremont have done or have what Peel have.

The state of facilities at footy grounds is the responsibility of the relevant council...clearly some councils have not come to the party and the WAFL in general suffers as a result.

Stand the Test wrote: Sure all comments solid. But EF Oval and Freo Oval are an embarrassment to all connected to them in any way.

Fine with me as that will include opposing supporters attending matches at those venues. So if you are a Perth supporter going along to watch them lose at East Freo again you are culpable for the state of the ground!

Swans did all the seating outside their club rooms themselves, nothing to do with the council.
East Fremantle had 20k cash to spend on Leggett and another heap from their go fund me initiative, if they can’t spend some of that on some decent seating then we know where the money is going, in peoples pockets

Why would they spend any money on the joint when there’s a new facility around the corner?
