i was just looking through the scores of the finals series and noticed that the royals were in front early; and that, in fact, the club beat South twice that year. Having regard to all of the above, and especially to ep supporters, did you go into the game with a little bit of confidence?

In passing, in their last two games, SF managged to lose to Subi for the first time in many years, before destroying WP in the last game of the season.

I actually remember listening to that game on the radio with SF Monteath running riot in the 2nd half.

I think we did but a certain coach knew his stuff and made adjustments.

South Fremantle took three rounds to find it's feet and then dropped more games during the season - but we were just too inconsistent at the wrong times to take the flag
Monteath was prolific in goals , and points , all year in his return from Richmond
There were some unbelievable scoring by sides that year in particular Claremont , Swan Districts , South Fremantle
wouldn't be too many who didn't like that attacking footy we had

Don't know but it was around that time we had sold off a lot of playing stock and we needed to the money, there was no WCE to align with and we wouldn't go into receivership.

Grump: he must have had a good offer from claremont, i think. Had he returned it would have made the royals an even more powerdul side in 1976.

Southerner-- the more I think about Brown at south, the more i come around to the idea that he did a great job. The club, as you know, lacked the depth of SD and CL and this was made worse by a bad run of injuries to key players. eg., Mckay and Rioli

Can remember doing an East Perth junior's day at Perth Oval.In 1981 a home game V South Freo. The Royals won by a few goals.Remember an indigenous wingman playing for EP.Ripping SFreo apart that day.Pretty sure his name was Arnold Cox.From memory was from Bayswater Junior's.

we were blessed to have Malcolm - he transformed the club into a pretty formidable unit

And what a great character Brownie was for WA Footy back then.
His antics used to get even more bums on seats and media exposure for the WAFL.
Have told the story before but I was playing Little League for Perth the day he ripped the Reserves off the ground early and ripped the mic out of the hand of the Channel 7 reporter who dared come into his way asking silly questions after he had addressed the team at the qtr time break and then proceeded to throw the Ch7 mic in the Keep Australia Beautiful Bin next to the Lathlain race!
Was headlines for days afterwards as was his walk up the Hay St mall in a leopard print bikini after losing a bet with Toddy over a SD vs SF game!
Where are those sort of characters today?
