I believe the Farmer brothers were a little agitated at the standard of umpiring in that game if my memory serves me right AR?!

Yes, it definitely involved the Farmer boys.

Beasley Hutton wrote: And what a great character Brownie was for WA Footy back then.
His antics used to get even more bums on seats and media exposure for the WAFL.
Have told the story before but I was playing Little League for Perth the day he ripped the Reserves off the ground early and ripped the mic out of the hand of the Channel 7 reporter who dared come into his way asking silly questions after he had addressed the team at the qtr time break and then proceeded to throw the Ch7 mic in the Keep Australia Beautiful Bin next to the Lathlain race!
Was headlines for days afterwards as was his walk up the Hay St mall in a leopard print bikini after losing a bet with Toddy over a SD vs SF game!
Where are those sort of characters today?

malcolm actually grew up a south supporter but as things go he ended up pulling on the boots first for East Perth - there was a time he copped an umbrella across the scone at Fremantle Oval playing for the Royals apparently some woman took offence at something malcolm did during the game
was absolutely magnificent for the footballing careers of quite a few aboriginal & islander boys in his time at South Fremantle - he took special pride in every single one of them regardless
and he had the gift of polishing a lesser light or discards like Paul Vasoli , Paul Mountain , Mick Moylan , Geoff O'Brien , Simon Outhwaite , Rod Barrett
there was a backpage picture of malcolm holding Garry Sidebottom by the hair and fending off another Swan Districts player at Bassendean Oval in 1977
He wore number 100 for one of his Claremont games against South Fremantle in his last year with them
one of our icons of WA footy

Hey Southener do you have any idea .What Souths where paying Bruce Monteath in 1981.He was Richmond premiership captain in 1980.Huge recruit for South coming off that 80 flag.A rough guess a topline VFL player was around $5000 a game back then.

I was lucky enough to able to attend the reunion of the 1972 EP side with the 1982 Souths team (I think)last year as part of the celebration for Malcolm's life member ship of the EP Past players.

What an outstanding day with the EP players and one of my all time favorite players Stephen Michael for one.

I often think that EP, SF and SD are more alike than we all would like to admit, just my thoughts.
We live in a time where intelligent people are being silenced so stupid people won't be offended

Yes Brett and Dean were both reported during the reserves game, Brett for handling an umpire I think. Brown had seen enough and went out and approached the umpire and it went from there. Brett was just coming back from a long injury lay off and this incident probably ended his career. An absolute shame because he would have been a very handy addition to the league side for the finals. I remember Peter Murnane having his 5 cents worth when Brown was taking the reserves off the ground. Brown didn’t appreciate his comments, and it was the wrong thing to do, but Malcolm was forever the hot head and he made his point.

Super was originally one of our juniors - got a clearance to play for Richmond after either the 72 or 73 WANFL season and was always going to come back home at some stage
He would have been on pretty good coin for sure

Surprisingly Southy Monteath left SF at the end of 1983 and moved to Claremont where he played in 84 & 85 before retiring. He then coached WP in 87 & 88.

Yep Claremont were prepared to pay more than we were at the time - even though it was his last two years it was hard seeing him in another side mate
