Chaddy: could you do such a side? It would be interestting viewing.

Not including the VFL guys only those lost to other WAFL clubs in the 80s.

before I do it is good to remember that East Perth made a application to join the Vfl in October 1980.So from the backline

John Hayes(SF 83-84) Kevin Bryant(VFL 79-84) George Michalczyk(WP 82-86)

Dean Turner(Fitzroy 84-86) Larry Kickett (Cl 83-86) Phil Kelly (NM Vfl 81-85)

John McGuire(Pth 80-83) Ross Glendinning (VFL 78-86) Willie Roe(SF 82-88)

Craig Edwards (SF 84-92) Paul Arnold (SF 83-85) Alex Hamilton (Subi 79-81)

Ruck
Ron Alexander (sharks 82-85) Peter Spencer (Vfl 81) Wayne Otway (Vfl 82-83)

Interchange
Chris Allen (Sd 84-85) Greg Carpenter (subi 86-89)
John Ironmonger (vfl 85-91) Ian Thomson (Sharks 79-81)

Chaddy: beautifully done. Did you offer Ron Alexander the role of Captain Coach when he came home? I remember Spencer leaving the Lions as we had a good side in 1986, but having said that, I have always thought it was a wee bit rash; we could have had injuries so he may have played in his second premiership side.

Grant Dorrington coached East Perth in 1981 and 1982.Like with Polly it was bad timing. With Alexander playing as captain coach of the sharks East Perth had arguably the best crop of ruckman produced running around in the wafl competition.Apart from Alexander the following players played league games in 1982.Craig Edwards (21 games) John Ironmonger (18 games) Shane cocker (3 games and Alex Ischenko (1 game).in 1983 Ironmonger (21) Edwards (20) Ischenko (16) and Cocker (3).Unfortunately by 1987 we had no ruckman and had to get Mal Bennett in from West Perth as all had moved on with Ischenko and ironmonger playing vfl and Edwards at south and Cocker at subi.Timing is everything and we just didn't have it in the eighties.

Good work Chaddy22, star studded side there. I had forgotten about Paul Arnold, big lump of a lad and a decent mark and goal kicker. Caused my team a problem or three in his time. Didn't he kick 9 in a final once? May have been the 1978 preliminary final? Perhaps my memory is failing me.

Chaddy: Yep, I understand completelly, that group is more than a plethora of good ruckman. As you pointed out, things change so quickly, people at the club would have been tearring their hair out about the same position in 1987, I am certain.

Was Kevan Sparks getting a regular game when he left? He was a great player for Subi.

I am cheating and looking at footy facts as my memory is a bit rusty.Pre 1984 he was a depth player unlike Russell who had more flair. Most probably went to subi at the right time like Carpenter and Cocker.

chaddy: was the club ever able to pin point why it was short of money in that era? Did Membership and sponsorship fall, or was it more that some of the clubs came into money, for example Subi and PFC?
