Hamilton startted out at EP, tried his heart out for Subi for three years and then went back to Perth Oval in 1982. Ironically, as you know, he would late coach subi's colts team.

I remember one game between Swans and EP in 1980, the preliminary final to be exact. You won 28.13 to 15.16 or so. I think it is still the highest score in a preliminary final.

Correction on John Hayes who also was a handy player.Actually started at East Perth
(69-74 premiership 1972), then West Adelaide (1975),Claremont (1976-1977)back to East Perth (1978-1982 premiership 1978 and captain 1981-1982) then finished up at South Fremantle (1983-1984) Turnball got shifted from Claremont I think because Neesham refused to give him a regular game at the tigers.I think he played as many wafl games as he did afl and you could never say he didn't give his best for the club.

Unfortunately John was one of many players who went to other clubs not because they couldn't get a game but we got into a financial mess.If we could have kept all the players together we wouldn't have been down the bottom and possibly challenging for a premiership. Some did come back but a very disruptive time.

Yep, Spencer was simply the biggest name among those whom left for more money in the middle 80s.

I thought he was a decent player for EP in the 80s holding down CHF or CHB.
Always played ok vs us back then.

In m mind not as good as he was touted

I do agree grump.i think he debuted at 16 and showed a lot of potential was a handy footballer but didn't get to the next level.

Fair enough fellas you would have seen him play more than my 3 times a year vs SD.
EP back in those days used to debut promising players at an early age pre-18yo (Campbell, Williams, Dennis, Starcevich, Ishchenko, Christian, Delborello, Pappotto et al) much like my mob have done over the last 20 years or more.

If East Perth had not been plundered by vfl clubs he might have battled to get a game in a key position. Some great key position players were missing.Garry malarkey(Geelong 1977-1986) Ross Glenndinning (North Melbourne 1978-1986) Kevin Bryant (north Melbourne 1979-1984). The eighties were a lost decade with most of our best players playing vfl or going to other clubs because of financial troubles and bad list management. I would say I could put a handy team together of players from 1980-1986 who ended up elsewhere while we were battling to put a competitive side especially from 1984-1986.

Hey Grump, observed no Glen Bartlett in your team. Not sure too much about his footy career but had a big influence on me thru a cancer scare in my mid teens. Can you or others enlighten me on his footy ability? The other bloke I'd like to know more about if anyone has recall was a fella who played mainly reserves Greg Gangel (possibly Gangyl or Gangle).

I can see what people are saying about Campbell; similar to a lot of CHFs in the WAFL over the years, he never really took the competition by the scruff of the neck.

Chaddy: could you do such a side? It would be interestting viewing.
