There's this talk about how it would be wrong to weaken Subi because that would just weaken the level of the WAFL as a whole. Firstly, as I have said many times, the notion that other clubs can simply raise their standards without having the same resources as Subi is just fanciful. Secondly, suppose this season Litherland was at EP, Lockyer at WP, Marsh and EF and Newton at SF. How would the comp be weakened? Those players are still playing, they are just not concentrated at the one club. If that happened, EP, EF, WP and SF would have been a little bit stronger. Subi would have been weaker, but not by a huge amount. They may have been brought down to a level of a good, but not unbeatable, team. Without those four players, it is still likely, in my opinion, that Subi would have finished on top, but without the total domination that just demoralises other clubs and supporters. That's all it would take for a better comp: four players going from Subi to their club of origin. Should that be so hard to achieve?

Did you hear the tripe that the "Premiership Coach" said this morning? Players go to Subi because of their "culture" NOT MONEY! He said that Deluca and Zac Clarke had better offers from other clubs at the time but went to Subi because of their "culture". It wasn't what I was hearing at the time.

Roman, in the same way there is a notional salary cap, but it is well known that it is an open joke, I would imagine there is some kind of system whereby offers made to players have to be registered or recorded. So it may well be the case that the match payments offered by some clubs exceeded Subi's. It is the other payments/benefits that are offered is where Subi can't be matched.

Clarke wanted to play for EP but wasn’t allowed by order of the WAFC. In the end it worked out for him personally. EP will be opening the purse strings from now on so competition for A grade recruits should be more competitive. Perth by all reports are well resourced also.

Royal 2019, it is no comfort to anyone to learn that EP intend to use their own ill-gotten gains to recruit heavily. With that, and Subi stating their intention to do what they always do, I am pessimistic about other club's prospects of adding quality to their lists.

TN...Unless the WAFC puts something into place that restricts who Subi can recruit then I would think it's incumbent on the club to do the best it can for sponsors, members and supporters. Clearly the WAFC can't place a carte blanche ban on recruiting as there would be restraint of trade issues given players are paid for their services so it would have to be something around points I'd suggest like making a delisted AFL player going to their non-original club 20 points or similar.

I feel sorry for the Subiaco supporters that have their successful period spoilt to some degree. Football like life is never equal and hopefully for the competitions sake it evens out a little. Two anecdotal off field stories I would like to share. When the Dockers auctioned off their old gym equipment, most if not all of the WAFL clubs showed up. Subiaco outbid the competition on this equipment.
Also after attending a WCE training session and seeing a $30000 piece of equipment a Subi coach had one within the week. Now it’s not Subiaco’s fault they can do this but is off field spending something that needs to be capped?

Interesting story, Royal, but moot. Even if other clubs successfully bid for this equipment, their players wouldn't have been committed enough to use it...

R2019... I think footy department spending is capped or regulated but not sure about gym equipment. In saying that, our 2 youngest players last Sunday in Braut and Stainsby aren't skinny kids that's for sure but you don't need a $30k piece of equipment to bulk up. It's nice to have but not essential.
