Most of the skill errors were by the Dees DG. Subi too slick and too good but the stats were very even. It was a pressure game and the Subi boys handled it a bit better than we did.
The free kick stat could not be right IMO. Probably an even count if the truth be known. What I do know is that the Dees gave away 3 free kicks in front of goal in 3 minutes in the second quarter which resulted in goals and enabled Subi to break open the game.
Smokey, those stats are correct have checked it on the WAFL site, not a big issue as that's the case for us most weeks as we are seen as a pretty physical team, a lot of frees get passed over as play on but no big issue. Yes there were a couple of clumsy ones in front of goals by your guys, so obvious they had to be paid. The one on Shepheard he would have marked but was dragged down over the shoulder and the one on Mckenzie was where he was tackled when the ball was a couple of metres away.
The game was very patchy, with some good free flowing stuff by both teams then some very ordinary stuff with horrible skill errors. The game was pretty even in all areas except for scoring efficiency which your guys butchered, but you had no problem winning your share of the footy and your spread out of defence was excellent. A big factor for your inaccuracy was some solid pressure from our backs which meant a lot of shots were from a long way out and from deep on the flanks, but there were some real sodas missed as well.
We got smashed in the taps again but that has been the case all season and most of last as we haven't had an actual ruckman, Dela and Clang are more your ruckrover types and do really well around the ground, compete strongly at stoppages but cant match the big fellas that most other teams have. Our mids have adapted to this wonderfully well and non better that Kitchin who was the BOG by the length of the Flemington straight with 39 quality touches, must be right up there with Hams as the front runners for the medal so far. Dela had a great game with 33 touches, Phez, Robbo, Horse, all good and Cockie was once again at his brutal best with some strong clearances and tackles, but he did cop his share as well, the Perth boys were up in our faces a fair bit so credit for that, our backs were ok with their pressure causing a lot of missed shots but if the D's had there kicking boots on it could have got ugly.
Good game by Shep with 5, had 3 shots from the square, one was a relay, one a clear free and the other a great pack mark. Mckenzie had another good game not hitting the board as well as last week but great pressure inside the 50 which caused a few turnovers.
Was a shame Broughts didn't get up for this game as was reported, anyone know why? Or just an extra precautionary week off?
Swans up at Bogundean next week, early 11.40 start so it must be the TV game. Swans will be up and about after a stirring come from behind win over the handbaggers, then it's a bye followed by two massive games against the Doggies and the Gummies that will sort out who is the top team. We will need to be playing 4 solid qtrs against these teams to get over them, any suggestions that Subi have the flag wrapped up are a bit premature until we see how we go against these teams.
