Wearing thermals in 15 degrees?....LOL...... no wonder us Aussies fall to pieces playing sport outside this country......15 degrees is a mid summers day in NZ and most likely Trent Bridge!.......

The day didn't start well when Horse followed us into the ground still in civvies, I heard later he has a calf that will keep him out for a few weeks. He's a massive loss as his on field leadership is enormous.

Swans started with the howling gale in fine conditions, the ground was ok in parts but in some patches it was a swamp. Swans worked hard going forward and defending and took their chances with 4.1 while we butchered several opportunities into the breeze to be 1.2, thought that was ok given it was a 5/6 goal breeze.

Second qtr was our best despite the wind dropping for the first 5 or 10 mins but we toiled away to peg back the lead, then the storm came through and it seemed to flick a switch in the boys as they dominated the rest of the qtr with 6.5 to 1.2 for a 16 point lead, we missed a few easy ones which was critical in the end.

Third qtr was a repeat of the first with Swans working hard for a 4.2 to 1.1 qtr, but with the expected gale out our backs, thought we would run over them in the last.

The last qtr was epic. The gale disappeared and Swans took full advantage to jump us with 2 early goals to go to what ended up being a match winning lead, then Swans closed the game down tight as a Scotsman's wallet for the last 10 mins with stoppage after stoppage. We created a few late chances but failed to convert. There was a long injury delay when a swans lad got knocked out in a pack collision, then swans continued to close it up for a good 5 mins, we closed to 3 points then missed 2 gettable chances and as the siren sounded Phez was steaming towards goal but was a couple of seconds too late to get a kick away.

Swans deserved the win as they were far more desperate and consistent over 3 of the 4 qtrs., they had their season on the line and played accordingly where our guys were a few % off the boil and that was the difference.

Moore & Yarran had good games up forward kicking 5 of our 10 goals although Yazz needs longer stops on his boots, he fell over at least a dozen times!! Phez with 28 disposals, Hancock & Kitch with 24 and Mena with 22 were good but I thought we were quite undisciplined at times giving away a few 50's and at least 3 goals from frees due to careless overcooked tackles. Was surprised that in the last 10 mins with all the stoppages there was no 3rd man up to punch the ball clear of the scrum, it was just a simple case of the big Swans ruckman dropping the ball at his feet over and over again and 10 guys diving on it.

Couple of boys that came in didn't do their chances of more games much good, Elliot is just not up to it, too erratic and careless giving away too many frees and Blech who I'm a big fan of seemed unable to pick up the pace of the game after so long in the 2's, but finished the game better than he started and will be better for the run.

No harm done in the long run, will be a kick in the arse for some as they realise they are playing for finals spots. Next week against the D's at Browns cows stadium will if the last game is any indication be physical, but a chance for the boys to get some good form down and hopefully for Dela to get some game time behind him as he is critical to our finals chances.

Good analogy Senior...the Scotsman's wallet comment is exactly what Harding asked for from our lads at 3/4 time and for once they executed. The player I noticed most for you yesterday was #16 I think Hancock. Seemed like he was running on top of the ground compared to most others yesterday. Subi are still definitely the team to beat this year and agree that you guys were 2-3% off yesterday not just because of the weather either.

Despite the loss I reckon one player who would have just a bit of a smile on his face last night would be Robbo. He split Faulkner down the middle almost in half early in the match. Credit to our guy Faulkner for getting up and continuing to go about his work like it never happened because it was a big hit. Conceded a free kick in doing so but let everyone know he was back in familiar territory. At least he cracked a smile waiting at the interchange gates as the money jibes continued throughput the day. Pity we couldn't afford to keep him at the club, I have a lot of time for how Robbo goes about it as a footballer.

Hancocks been a super pick up for us, relatively unheralded when compared to Kitchen, Menagola, Robbo & Lockyer, but is a big body and has pace, don't think he was rated down at EF but we have a fairly good track record of making discards into good players.

After a slow start Robbo has been terrific since coming up from Bunbury after deciding to have another crack at WAFL, thanks to his mate Twomey, good pace, skills and is good inside & outside. Anybody that comes to subi from elsewhere knows fullwell that opposition clubs will give them the tired old $$ comments but it's a little hollow coming from some Swans supporters present company excepted, for reasons they all know but choose to forget about the significant number of quality recruits they got on their way to the '10 flag.

It was interesting to see Swans president (I Think?) Hodyl at the interchange giving big mouth fulls of crapola to Twomey and Robbo. Might have had a few lubrications prior to that I guess.
While Geappen had a very good game, he really seems to be turning into another classic swans off the ball sniper. Likes giving a good elbow.
Glad to hear no swannies complaining about the umpires this time - how the hell could they after that effort.

Whilst I won't go as far as confirming your suspicions Singha re lubrication I will add that there was an ex player up and about yesterday (not the preso) who could barely string 2 coherent words together. At best a 2 pot screamer this bloke and in fine form if talking tripe is your thing.

He was just giving what they deserve and reminding them not to trip over their wallets..What about that clown of an assistant Wasley getting involved manhandling our players at 3Qt? The dick is a nobody and lucky he didn't get pummelled into the Bassendean mud, I hope the Swans management make a complaint about his conduct
Beneath the Southern cross i stand, on Bassendean Oval, can in hand, Swan Districts, you Farkin Beauty!

Swan your going back in history a bit but yes Rod liked to throw it about but coped his fair share as well, it's pointless talking about teams and players who can be named as snipers, as every single club has them now and in the past. The great Swans, SF, Cl & EF teams of the late 70's and early 80's all had their snipers and brutish players, all successful teams have/had that "nasty" element, that fact cannot be denied, so maybe time to stop being precious.

perception is a funny thing i guess...i never considered spinner to be a sniper or a grub...maybe i missed something all those years ago. i do know he had a torrid time with peter melesso in the 88 GF but can't recall him getting rubbed out too many times.
