It was my understanding at the time he didn't see eye to eye with Waterman and was offered big buck$ at Swans. After Waterman left it was a bit of a no brainer to come back...but I could be wrong.

after Swans he agreed to go back to Peel as he lives down there then when Webb got the job at Freo/Peel he didnt want to go there and went back to Subi.

MO that's exactly what I heard, Hildo and Webby did not see eye to eye and he had the same problem with Muddy, but despite that he had a stellar career with flags at two clubs and I think an F & B at Swans? Interestingly after a fairly good and consistent season for us his best game for the year was the GF and in conditions that did not suit his game. Quality WAFL player by any measure.

BC wrote: Interesting to see what the team for round 1 will look like. Here's my amateurish attempt based on last years GF side with in's and out's taken into account.

B J Latham D Rumble C Le Fanu
HB W Twomey B Stevenson S Worthington
C C Phelan K Horsley S Hildebrant
HF R Waters C Wheeler G Hampson
FF L Delahunty M Boland S Yarran

F F Stockley L Kitchin B Mahoney

Int. C Deluca, S Menagola, J Lockyer, M Wood, S Hancock..don't know too much about him and whether he's league standard or not although I see he played a full league season for EF last year.

It appears very strong in the front half where the likes of Wood, Deluca, Halligan (after serving 4 week suspension from the ressies GF) and co need to squeeze in. I can also see Rhys Waters and George spending more time as attacking midfielders this year so maybe they both belong on the bench to start with. Menagola would probably rotate through the mids as well and Lockyer into the back half as an alternate tall. Hows that look to you Ben? It looks pretty blo*dy good to me.

BC, the halfback line looks imposing if Wortho & Stevo can replicate their finals form, and Twomey is just a quality player, they all have size strength and pace and play attacking footy off HB. I think at best we are as strong as last year. We have Stocks now as lead ruck but will miss McDougals goal kicking, Dela needs to stay fit and have a full season and he can take over McDougals role. Would prefer Clanger to stay at CHF with an occasional pinch-hit in the ruck. Like any team if we can keep our best 22 on the paddock we will be a strong contender.

agreed with all of the above SS. hopefully Menagola will give us the gut running through the middle we came to expect from Hildo although in saying that, Hilda will take some replacing that's for sure.

Webb has not coached Subi so when did they not see eye to eye. As team mates?
Or when Webb was an assistant.
It sounds like Hildo is a bit of a different cat from what what I am reading.
