Gutsy win by the boys to give us our 12th Flag. Chris Deluca really set the example of whats required to win finals, his courage and commitment to the contest did not waver even after that heavy 3rd qtr clash where his attack on the footy provided an opportunity for a goal.

Twomey was outstanding and like all top shelf players was able to step up a level in finals, 36 touches and his effectiveness helped balance some poor disposals by others. Dougs was the best big man on the ground with great support from the Tank, Dela is getting better with each run and that wonderful old stager Rumba was almost impassable at full back, his anticipation was superb in stopping many of the Gummies attacks.

The mid-field held their own despite ROB & McGough getting plenty of the ball but both kept below their usual 30+ posies. ROB continues his spinless ducking tactics this time drawing a report for Hildo who must be one of the fairest players in the comp.

Massive gutsy effort given the absence of our 2 best mids in Horse and Hampson and out best forward in Boland. Yes EF butchered many shots at goal but some of that was to do with solid pressure from our backs who did a great job.Yarren was a bit of an enigma, really didn't have a great 3 qtrs watching some of his fumbles and dropped marks but like good player he was able to step up in the last with 2 crucial goals to make it 4 for the day so in the end a great return that should give him confidence in the exhibition game.

Schoey will be giving them a very light week before the exhibition match, it was pretty warm out there and the Filth were able to sit back and watch and relax while the listed boys were off getting the latest perm down in King St.

I look at this weeks exhibition match a bit like the one Subi played against the Hawks post 86 season where we got within a couple of points, Subi will give it everything and if successful will take great credit from it, if the Royal eagles, as expected win comfortably nobody will care or give them any credit. Listened to comments by Peter Spenser after the game when asked about his view of his former club, stated along the lines that he was very uncomfortable with the alignment and a win next week would not have the same meaning due to the massive involvement of the listed players, all that from a bloke who bleeds blue and black........ or used to.

ps: ABC Saturday morning sportstalk noted that the Ferals attendance this year is down 19% despite them dominating the comp, that says a bit about what right minded Roays supporters and members think of it.

So glad we won, when I saw Parry was missing and Worobec was doing the reserves I was concerned there was no one to blame if we lost.

Fellas is it alright with you that I blame the umps for EF poor goal kicking yesterday?........just feel kinda empty and gutted that EF couldn't at least convert 1 or 2 of those 26 behinds into goals to win the game......fark it's doing my head in and my aortic aneurysm no good at all TBH

I remember that SubI v Hawks game in 86......actually was expecting EF to play them but can't seem to remember actually why Subi played Hawthorn instead :S

East Fremantle kept missing due to the fine pressure from Subiaco. ;)

Is the main training session still Thursday nights? Might take the kids down after school for a kick.

even those set shots for goals from dead in front Barney?....pretty sure the umps were to blame some how for Williamsons, Dalziells,Perham and Boyles shite kicking for goal?

Funny you say that BC......my memory of 85 is far better than 86.......pretty sure the umps were to blame for not allowing Bennett kick another 10 goals on GF day like he did in the 2nd semi........ :silly:

only bits and pieces of 85 linger in the old scone freez but i do recall Phil Scott missing a sitter from about 10 yards out with minutes to go that would have put Subi in front...funny how some things just won't go away... ;-)

Stephen Sells missed the sitter not Phil Scott. Scott marked and goaled with seconds remaining. The mindset in those days appears to have been completely alien, the sharks did not try and protect their small lead and just kept attacking. I remember with a minute to go billy jones taking a mark on the half forward line and playing on, kicking it straight to a one on one contest which subiaco cleared easily. Why not go back, pretend you have cramp, waste some time, kick it near boundary line so it goes over?
Yesterday was pretty disappointing from a shark perspective, comparable to the pain of the 1988 preliminary final loss.
