Disappointing day by our lads but great credit to a fanatical Swans team who finished all over us. Our tackling pressure was way down on the first 5 games, that is what has created the turnovers and overlap footy that we have been able to dominate all other teams with so far but Swans run and spread especially from deep in their backline was superb. Schoey identified this but the players did not respond or follow instructions and continued to bomb it in. Only one forward, Boland came close to winning his position won on the day and had he kicked straight and got a 50/50 break from the umps would have kicked 6 or 7, but bad kicking is bad footy and he missed some sitters in the first half but continued to present hard all day.

While our discipline was not great, not sure we were as bad as the umpires decisions would indicate especially deep forward in marking contests and some very petty 50m penalties, one in particular where the player was already clearly running back to make the mark and was immediately pinged without being given a reasonable time to get back. The umps total lack of consistency when applying most decisions was the most annoying thing but in the end did not affect the outcome given Swans dominating last qtr.

Will be interesting to see what the tribunal does, did not see if Waters was reported, would expect he was giving it was high and the player left the field but as I said on the Swans thread, the tribunal has set clear precedents especially with the "special treatment" given to Afl listed players in particular Silvia & Moribito, based on that, Waters can reasonably expect a reprimand,if not there should be an inquiry into the undue and unfair influence the AFL clubs are obviously placing on the tribunal.

We missed Hampsons creativity, run, clearance work and goal scoring plus Rumba's physicality down back. George sat in front of me in the first half and said he twinged a hammy at Tuesday training but should be back for Perth. We have a heap of injuries at the moment but hopefully the depth in the 2's will hold up and we can remain competitive. Perth next week at Browns cows oval, they have had the wood on us in recent seasons so we had better be on our game from the first bounce.

As far as the umpiring was concerned I was amazed at the number of decisions made by the Non officiating umpires which means that either there was a lot going on behind the play or these umpires were trying to draw attention to themselves or be noticed. It didn't seem like a particularly spiteful game, so I would be surprised if there was anything other than the usual stuff going on off the ball. The best umpires are the ones that you don't notice and as a Swans fan I would agree that we definitely got the rub of the green as far as some of the baffling decisions that were made in the first 3 quarters

I see Reece Waters was offered & accepted two weeks for his high spoil/contact on the Swans player. It happened right in front of us and was in the contest so in normal circumstances would be an appropriate sanction. But there is no such thing as normal circumstances with the WAFL tribunal at the moment. Given Sylvia's behind the play king(coward)hit on Mahoney where he was offered 4 weeks and was magically downgraded to 2 weeks on the eve of the hearing, then Morabito's full on charge and head high contact on the CL player getting zippo one can be forgiven for wondering what sort of undue pressure is being brought to bear and by whom on the WAFL tribunal that sees a clear application of 2 sets of standards when dealing with AFL listed players and G7 players. It is a disgrace and there needs to be some transparency of the whole tribunal process which is currently totally lacking any integrity.

Swans player Gaeppon's striking charge was withdrawn, didn't see it so cant comment.

Also if anyone is interested the free kick count (official WAFL Stats) in the Subi v Swans game was 34 to 18 Swans way, given that few frees were given in the last qtr due to the Subi players not being able to get anywhere near the Swans blokes, most of that imbalance was in the first 3 qtrs when the game was an even battle.

Just an observation boys ;-)

Oh well, there goes our free kick allotment out at SD for the year

Suggests your mob were second to the ball on Saturday SS which on reflection is where the game was won along with cleaner ball use. Glad to see you mob not whingeing about the umpiring though. That's our job :P
