Haiden Schloithe had a great day out with 39 disposals, 9 marks, 9 tackles and 2 goals. Seemed to do what he wanted. Would have thought he would have been tagged.

39 is a big number. But tagging isn't good for the Wafl. Let's save it for the GF when we take these bulldogs down.

I agree Shents. it was a strange huddle but in the end Wardman narrowed things down to a key 3 points and the boys played one of their best quarters for the year.

Interesting comment Shents. I to felt that they were a bit lost. Good on the team for regrouping in the last.

We started well  by closing the game down into congested contested footy which Souths dont like but losing both Powell and Maxy before qtr time, totally unbalanced the team and Souths took full advantage in the second where they effectively won the game. They opened us up with good run and spread and used the footy very well plus converted well. Higgins was dominating the taps and Schloithe was doing what he wanted, one of the best games I've seen him play. Things steadied up marginally in the 3rd but we still looked slow, couldn't hit a target and had little flow, Souths 4 goals to 2 and we appeared to have no hope.
The last qtr was like watching a different team, we ran hard and started to hit a few more targets and got within 17 points with plenty of time but fatigue played it's part and we got more and more untidy towards the end and Souths resorted to controlling the ball by chipping backwards sideways whatever to maintain possession. At least we managed to put a bit of a scare into them, Dela's last qtr was special and the main reason we put up any challenge at all, a few breaks going our way and it could have been on but in the end we would not have deserved it. Just shows how important a full bench is, we saw that when we won over a depleted EP team in the first game.

Souths are a very good team, quick skilled and plenty of mobile big blokes, which makes next weeks game v the Tiges that much more challenging, given they beat Souths and we wont have Maxy and possibly Powell due to concussion protocols.

I found the game hard to watch in the first half, horrible football. Subi were a rabble in the third, but South’s starting playing great footy at least. A loss in all 3 grades and not too much talent standing up in the reserves...

First of all congrats to Souths. The final result flattered us a little bit and we lost it where I thought we would and that was through the midfield. Schloithe, Dragovic, Parker and co were dominant although losing Maxy and Powell early in the first didn't help that's for sure. A couple of observations:

A big shout out to the SF club Dr who ran out to Max when it seemed he was in big trouble. I'm sure Max's family and friends were all greatly appreciative of the added care he gave.

I don't normally come onto this site and bag the umps as I think we all understand that it's a tough job and no ump deliberately makes bad decisions but a couple of the guys in charge yesterday were either totally overawed or incompetent. Souths got an absolute dream ride in the first half and some of the decisions were a joke. The free kick count evened up after half time but by then the damage had been done. Soft frees in front of goals, playing the advantage when everyone had stopped resulting in goals, Schloithe winning 4 frees for dropping his knees and getting high tackles, missed decisions our way were the order of the day and absolutely cruelled us.

The sooner someone takes Schloithe's head off when he ducks the better the game will be as it's currently a blight on the spectacle. If I were a player I'd know when I'm about to tackle him that he's going to drop down so a swinging arm would do the trick and he won't do it again. Take the 4 week suspension, move on and I'm sure lots of WAFL footballers and supporters would be grateful. Better still would be if the umps stop paying him frees but I don't think that's going to happen any time soon.

Thats my rant for the day ....a disappointing result but to be expected I guess given South's at home are a quality unit and losing two midfielders in the first quarter was not ideal. A big pat on the back to Greg Clark, Kitch, Dela and young Matthew Johnson on his debut.

And that determined the result did it?
