Agree that umps can make a difference. That's life.

I think Wardman is doing a good job. Players listen to him. He makes rational points. He keeps it simple. He lacks that bit of crazy that some good coaches have, but he can motivate when he needs to.

First of all congrats to Souths. The final result flattered us a little bit and we lost it where I thought we would and that was through the midfield. Schloithe, Dragovic, Parker and co were dominant although losing Maxy and Powell early in the first didn't help that's for sure. A couple of observations:

A big shout out to the SF club Dr who ran out to Max when it seemed he was in big trouble. I'm sure Max's family and friends were all greatly appreciative of the added care he gave.

I don't normally come onto this site and bag the umps as I think we all understand that it's a tough job and no ump deliberately makes bad decisions but a couple of the guys in charge yesterday were either totally overawed or incompetent. Souths got an absolute dream ride in the first half and some of the decisions were a joke. The free kick count evened up after half time but by then the damage had been done. Soft frees in front of goals, playing the advantage when everyone had stopped resulting in goals, Schloithe winning 4 frees for dropping his knees and getting high tackles, missed decisions our way were the order of the day and absolutely cruelled us.

The sooner someone takes Schloithe's head off when he ducks the better the game will be as it's currently a blight on the spectacle. If I were a player I'd know when I'm about to tackle him that he's going to drop down so a swinging arm would do the trick and he won't do it again. Take the 4 week suspension, move on and I'm sure lots of WAFL footballers and supporters would be grateful. Better still would be if the umps stop paying him frees but I don't think that's going to happen any time soon.

Thats my rant for the day ....a disappointing result but to be expected I guess given South's at home are a quality unit and losing two midfielders in the first quarter was not ideal. A big pat on the back to Greg Clark, Kitch, Dela and young Matthew Johnson on his debut.
Gee mate for a minute there I thought I was reading a Swan42 or BH post.

No worries with the Doc. Yes came out straight away, did SFC have a Dr on hand?

Also what was the go with the other bloke wandering around the car park with his dad trying to control him? Looked totally out of it.

A few people have touched on the umpiring of this game. I have a few questions about decisions that were made and yes they are against Subi. Maybe I have lost touch and rules have changed. The first was at the 55.17 of the replay. Ben Sokol took a mark, moved slightly to one side and was run down by a Souths player from behind. Sokol wasn't expecting it and I was surprised that the South player didn't get pinged. I was wrong. Next 1.15.14 of the replay a South player was dancing on the head and shoulders of a Subi player with the ball not even close to the players yet it was play on. I would have thought interference. Next 1.15.40 of the replay, a free kick to South in their forward line........fair enough I think. All players were at a stand still probably waiting for the South player to have a kick but I think it was Rioli who was well forward of the play picked up the ball, took off and kicked a goal. Advantage called......don't know. South played the better footy on the day and deserved to get the 4 points. Question, now that we have livestream (isn't it fantastic) do you think that the boss of umpiring would sit down and view the games and question decisions that are made.

Our Game is super hard to umpire but agree with your queries G. Those advantage calls are unfair. Get on my goat. I think they got two of them.

Bit hard by certain people to criticise Wardman after his first loss of the season, I'll take 3 & 1 with a loss to the pre-season raging favourites. Losing 2 of our best mids before 1/4 time will impact and unbalance any team. The last qtr was much better after Wardman managed to get the players refocused. But next week will be an even bigger challenge against the current flag favourites Claremont on their own turf. Cant see Maxy or Powell playing due to concussion protocols, so makes it harder still. Hopefully we get Gus and Borchet back and maybe time to see what Narkle can do at League level. The need for an extra tall was shown up by Souths dominance in the air, throw Narkle in at CHF in a game that few will give Subi a chance of winning.
Nothing to lose.

Yeah SS, I thought Wardman got them focused at 3/4 time too.

I do prefer losing sometimes to winning all the time. Makes footy much more interesting.

From what I saw of Narkle in the reserves, he's just too light to make an impact. He's skillful and clever. A goer, but outgunned. I hope I'm wrong.
