"I can confirm that the WAFC Football Affairs approved at Thursdays meeting for Subiaco FC to have their recruiting restriction that were put in place at the end of 2019 removed and for Subiaco FC to treated in line with South Fremantle, Claremont and West Perth. That is, the competition baseline of 100 player points and no recruiting restrictions other than those already apart of the WAFL Rules and Regulations" said Baker.

Do Subiaco, Claremont, South and West Perth have different recruiting rules to the rest of the clubs?

Not actual recruiting rules just a reduced points cap, can still recruit outside/interstate players just have reduced points to work within. Seems a reasonable approach to get some overdue equalisation happening.

Agree Dazz, worse happened to Josh Deluca who was delisted by Carlton at the end of that same year he was chosen after playing 5 games? He had been assured that there was a spot for him so packed up and moved to Vic only to be delisted at the end of the season. Vic pricks!

I don't get it, I always thought the great equalisation measure in the WAFL was the setting and restructuring of zones? Surely East Fremantle have a zone as good as anybodys? The best footballers to come out of WA in the past twenty years have mostly come out of East Freo.
Why do those four clubs have equalisation measures put on them, is it conclusive that we have better zones than the others? There was no restrictions in the old days was there, everybody was on a level playing field.

It has only been brought in the last decade TOO due to Subi's continual success.
Considering those same 4 clubs have virtually been annual finalists for the best part of 20 odd years now you could argue it is not really working either?

As for the zones themselves one of the best guides of how strong each one is is by checking the Colts positions as those boys are all from your zone there are no recruits allowed unlike in the Seniors.
In that case Claremont with 45+ years of playing or only just missing finals would be as good as any zone including EF!

Ben Newton announced his retirement at the F & B night. Massive loss to our mids, was in great form later last year and this silly season, so important now to make sure we can get Deluca back.

Bit of a surprise there SS , Ben Newton not that old and as you say has been in good form. Will mean more opportunities for the younger brigade, Hickmotts and Ben Golding maybe.

It is a big blow as 2020 was the first time he was injury free over the season and I thought he was our best player notwithstanding Stainsby won the F&B narrowly from Dela. His left foot was a real weapon.

the zones don't matter anymore lads because of the low draft age
the PFC would have already ended its premiership drought twenty years ago had the draft age been 22

Franklin played one game for the club; Batemen and the others a few more before they left.

I have said to Subi people many times, having players drafted should never be celebrated.

EF supporters have fallen for this one a lot, although not so much in recent years -- thankfully. In this sense, the blue and whites deserve any other measures the league may dream up to even the competition.

All we have done in the last forty years is let the two AFL clubs, plus the others, steal players at colts level rather than league level, which has proved to be unintelligent. It is made worse, because, few players continue once they retire from the AFL -- this was not anticipated when they formed the Eagles.
