All kinds of people are having a crack at designing something new. Some of them are okay but none really hit the spot 100% yet for me but they're getting closer slowly. I think I like the top one best so far.

Or we could be a little thankful that for some reason or another most of us are here due to pommie heritage one way or the other. I apologise if you forefathers were idigenous a/man. If nor they were NOT your forefathers.

I agree with you unka. I like the flag and also think If it wasn't for the poms coming over we wouldn't be living in this great country. Yes you get the odd bogan or two with tattoos of the the flag and southern cross but they are just as proud to be Australian as anyone else. Why fix was is not broke, and put taxpayers money towards something worthwhile like hospitals, schools etc..

People just have to keep trying to design a flag idea that eventually most people like. They haven't done it yet that's all.

Anyway, the poms want their "mini me" version of the union jack back. We've borrowed it from them for long enough.

Why do we need to have something aboriginal on any new design? I dont see any red indian significance on either the USA or Canadian flags!

I remember seeing a programme on the ABC as a kid. The Dot art that Aboriginal's do was shown to them by an Englishman. Up until then they just blew paint over their hands to leave an imprint, or their paintings consisted of line art, not series of dots.

Therefore, these flags should be considered insulting souvenir art in my opinion, even as an Australian of non Aboriginal heritage.

As mentioned by someone else the American flag doesn't have any reference to their native population, however does have a very colourful and interesting story behind it, much like our Eureka flag.

I'm not sure why we should be putting so much emphasis on the Aboriginal designs on the flag. They are Australian, they have played an enormous part in forging this nation and its heritage. The same as those of other races who came to this country.

I was once told by an Aboriginal that she was proud of who she was, and her Irish heritage. The most displaced hardest done by race in the world.

It's the one part of the flag I can't make my mind up on.

On one hand Indigenous people make no more or less contribution than any other ethnic group and yet nobody would be asking for an Italian, Vietnamese or Greek emblem encoded into an Australian flag.

On the other hand, they have been here for 40,000 to 60,000 years. We've been he for 225 years.

That's an awful long time to be looking after a joint.

Having said that I absolutely do not want an Indigenous "flag" on the new flag. Then we are back to square one with one flag sitting on top of what is supposed to be "a flag for all".

Not Aboriginal, but do have Pommie heritage. But still remember those who fought for our country and were led to the slaughter by the Poms.

You PERSONALLY have no ancestory that is of indigeneuos blood a/man. As i have mentioned i am quite open to changing oue flag to delete the union jack if thats what the populous want. I refuse though to aplogise for atrcoities that occured way way before i was born. If your forefathers did not come here, you would have been stuck in pommieland more than likley anyway, so perhaps you should be a wee bit appeciative of your forefathers.
